Meet Carlos Steele of Carlos Vincent Photography & Solrac Photoart Studio in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Steele.

Carlos, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became fascinated with photography watching my niece Kim Kearse-Lane walking the Ebony Fashion Fair runway. I did not like all the strange men with the cool devices (cameras) taking pictures of my best friend and niece. I said I’m going to do what they do so nobody has to take her pictures but me!

In 2012, I was given my first digital camera, the Canon 20D. I shot anything and everything I could see, as my camera was always with me. I built my first home studio in my garage of my home and grew out of it shortly thereafter. I decided for me to have the clients I wanted and to be able to do what I loved the most, capture and tell a story. I needed a full studio so in 2017 I Opened up my first studio. April of 2018 I left my day job of 6 years to go full time photography. I felt I was hurting myself and my business brand by not being available and operating in my passion and gift. Headshots, Fashion, editorial & commercial photography is what I enjoy doing more than anything, photography is my peaceful creative place. I am Carlos Vincent Photography, what is your story?

Has it been a smooth road?
NO! NO! & did I say NO!? Photography requires a lot of hours researching, marketing, branding and staying relevant. Everyone with a camera or decent phone considers themselves to be a photographer, and you have to even compete with the selfie addiction. As far as running a studio? Now you have even more of a business outlook to take on. My biggest struggle was building the clients, showing value in hiring a professional photographer and having photos, and keeping clients. Being a full time photographer and running a studio, a big part of that is if you are renting space to other photographers. Having a marketing plan to draw them in because now they become clients from a different perspective.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in Headshots, Fashion, Editorial, & Commercial beauty photography. I am know for my abnormal say of seeing things hence my tag line “I am not the norm, I am the edge of reality. I am unrealistic, I am the abstract in your Sol.” I would say I am most proud of my desire to fight against the odds and do things my way and not fall into the normalcy of doing things how certain people feel it should be done, because that is how it has always been done. To date my greatest accomplishment is my “I Am Not The Norm” Look Book.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do, I feel and believe the greatness of Dallas has yet to be fully tapped into. I would advise anyone looking to start in this business here. To find their own style and make the city conform to it and, do not conform to the city. In other words, shoot with a creative eye and a vast imagination.
