Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephany Acosta.
Stephany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was always active as a kid. I had a track & field background as well as dance. When I got started in the real world, I began working corporate jobs where I went from being active to then living more sedentary. I had various sales and account management positions in the Telecom world, but I wasn’t happy with what I was doing. I was working for money, not because I was passionate about what I did. After about 5 years in the industry, I realized that I wanted to find something that I was passionate about. Recollecting on times where I was happy brought me back to when I was active. That led me to get certified as a personal trainer, and about 11 years later I decided to open up my own gym. It was always a dream of mine to be entrepreneur, I just had no idea I would be running my own business with fitness until about 2011. After working for a few companies, I realized that I was wanting something to call my own and I knew I had found my calling with fitness. Helping improve body mechanics as well as improve the quality of health that my clients have is the most rewarding thing to achieve in my book.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hahahaha, smooth road- does that exist? In all seriousness, I don’t think any major success comes with a smooth road. One of my favorite quotes on achievement is, “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” One of my biggest struggles was believing that I could take the business to the next level by having our very own gym. We had been renting space with other smaller gyms. After being in business for 5 years, I realized that in order to have our own gym, there was a risk I was going to have to take. That led me to an even deeper question… “Did I have the ability to do it?” It was a moment of truth for me-to step out of my comfort zone. To do something that was bigger at the time than I was ready for. If I didn’t take a big risk to get my gym up and running however, who else would? At the end of the day, I believe in what I do enough to say everyone can benefit from what I have to offer. And knowing that I do feel that strongly about helping people achieve optimal health is what’s allowed me to say the risk is worth it. And hopefully in the next month, Elevate Fitness will be up and running in their very own gym!
Please tell us about Elevate Fitness.
Elevate Fitness is a company that specializes in personal training and corporate wellness. We provide programs for individuals and travel to companies to provide boot camps for their employees. I would say the one thing that I am most proud of are my clients. Whether it’s to improve mobility and posture or to lose weight, all of my clients have improved at something and that makes me proud to work with them. I am especially proud of all of my corporate clients. For some, they had never even tried a boot camp before. To see the amazing progress they make with strength and improved mobility after 90 days always makes me feel like I am fulfilling my purpose. At Elevate Fitness, I don’t like to call us just trainers, we are life coaches. I believe fitness is a lifestyle and the trainers and I will show each person who walks through our door how elevating their fitness ability improves every area of their life. We lead by example. Promptness, intuitiveness, professionalism, education and elevation represents our core values. We have bridged the gap for every possible obstacle that would prevent our clients from making the changes they need. Our knowledge and expertise as well as genuine care for each individual and their optimal health I think is what has really helped us grow as a business and keep our clients coming back.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Obesity and Type 2 diabetes are a growing problem in the United States. Texas actually places 8th in this epidemic. There are more services that are needed to help reverse the statistics that are associated with these 2 leading diseases. The biggest problem is lack of knowledge and accountability that help people improve their quality of life. This is why I started my business and also why I will continue to focus on impacting the Dallas Metroplex. I think more medium size businesses in Dallas that need to implement fitness programs for their workers. It amazes me how many people I know that work for big companies that do not provide any program as part of an added benefit of the company. There are so many statistics that show improved productivity as well as attendance for companies that did add those types of programs. I would think more CEO’s and business owners would be appreciative for the sake of the company’s direction to have these programs for their workers. Gym memberships aren’t enough. Too many people avoid the gym because they get intimidated by using weights if they don’t know how to properly use them. Having a program in place ensures that workers will be held accountable and achieve some results from a professional to improve their quality of life. Happy people equals happy workers 🙂
