Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Sifuentes.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve unintentionally spent my entire life creating things! I started as a dancer. Where I found my passion choreographing for advanced children. I attended the University of Texas where I pursued my dance degree. I always had an interest in computers but didn’t really know much about them until I was inspired by one of my dance professors. He animated dancers and projected them up on stage with his live dancers to create something magical. I took a few classes learning how to do this myself and then I was hooked on graphic design and animation. After college I had a friend who was interviewing for a position at a tech company and she decided she was going to go a different career route so she said I should show up to the interview in her place! Now I realize how silly that was, but I did it and as they say “The rest is history!” I got the job and started designing websites for the NFL. After learning and soaking in all I could, I left the tech world for interactive Advertising. I designed websites for Crest, Clairol and Diet Coke to name a few. And then I got pregnant! After the birth of my daughter I developed a passion for photography. I always thought photography would be my side gig while web design was my main, but somewhere early on it all flipped and photography took over! I’ve been a full time newborn and child photographer for 7 years now.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a newborn and child photographer. I create images of whimsy and children at play. My favorite work is not posed, its letting kids be kids and families be families. I hope that when people view my family portraits they can see the love that they all share. When people view my shots of babies, toddlers and children that they catch a bit of their personality, from the shy kids to the diva. I love capturing movement so the viewer can create a story in their heads. Where is she going with that violin in that field of tulips?
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns? As a “proppy” newborn and child photographer, you end up spending a lot of money on those fabulous sets that make you stand out from others. Start slowly and build up from there. Charge your worth and you can make a great business out of this.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work? My work has been featured in Parent’s magazine, numerous ads for baby products and in advertising for the hospitals under Texas Health Resource. You can also view my website, Facebook and Instagram. The best way to support my works is to book a session and be my muse!
