Life and Work with Pylar Pinkston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pylar Pinkston.

Pylar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
How can one dog have such a life-changing impact on your life? A young Rottweiler that I owned developed a brain tumor and after seeking help from multiple sources all across the country, unfortunately, he crossed Rainbow Bridge. One of those contacts just a few weeks later sensitive to my loss yet made me aware of another young male very similar in age that needed a Furever home. Thor begins the chapter of my life that turned into a wonderful journey of second chances. Having my own personal dogs didn’t create that much more to take care of a rescue. Soon, one turned into two then three then it seemed to be like square dancing with one dog getting adopted and two more coming in. My CPA suggested that a 501c3 be formed which was in 2006. As God always has surprises in store for us it was one rainy Spring Saturday morning when I reached under the coffee table thinking I was getting a hairball when a small baby Opossum uncurled itself in the palm of my hand. As it turned out, my dogs proceeded to bring in through the doggy door a total of 7 baby Opossums that at the time I had no idea however with the flash floods mom had most likely scurried towards shelter and these li’l ones had fallen off her back.

Then, in September, that same year, I got a call from a local Animal ER clinic that had a baby beaver turned in by a Good Samaritan and needed my assistance. At that time, I realized that my skill set of wealth management needed more honing to care for wildlife. I went to the International Wildlife Rehabilitators Conference in Portland, Oregon and became certified with the Texas State Parks and Wildlife as a Rehabber along the way learning from others that were great mentors for this new passion. Thankfully, my career in finance helped paved the way for starting a nonprofit which is 100% volunteer based and privately funded through donations.

On the domestic side, the goal for all the animals is to be adopted into their Furever home. All are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, receive monthly heartworm and flea preventative. An adoption application is received with reference checks and a home visit to help ensure that they are not to be abandoned, abused or neglected again. There are some that have become sanctuary animals and will live out their lives at Furry Friendzy.

The goal for the wildlife is to be rehabilitated and returned back to the wild to have a second chance at life. Beavers, fawns, opossums, and skunks are the main focus with any other wildlife getting referred or triaged then transported to a specialized rehabber for that species.

It truly takes all of us making a difference!🐾

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sometimes, God’s plan for our lives is completely different from what we have chosen. At that moment, we may feel hurt or disappointed. But down the road, we will be able to see the beauty and the perfection of God’s choice instead. And there are times when your plan for your life comes together nicely because as Psalms tell us: when we delight ourselves in God and his kingdom, he will give you the desires of your heart. To the degree you delight in God, you will find you desire nothing which God does not already desire for you. So, expect life not to go the way you planned. Expect shipwreck, rough patches, mountains to climb, floods to traverse, stop signs, falling rocks, flat tires, an empty tank. All the hazards of the road. But here is God’s promise: “I am with you.”

Please tell us about Furry Friendzy.
Professionally, I help care for what matters to humans in their financial life. Building a strategy by which they can reach their goals by building, attaining and transferring wealth.

Personally, I help care for those that do not have a voice and depend on humans to help make this world a better place.

In both of my professional and personal lives… caring is what matters most and the trusting relationships that are built with the humans, as well as the animals, is a very special connection.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
My great aunt helped raise my older brother and me, as my mother was a single mom until she remarried as my father died when I was 12 years old. She always believed in me, supported me and gave of herself, so I could have a better life. She lived her life as an example of unconditional love which ironically is the same that animals give us. My mom raised us in a church which helped build the foundation for my life in general. Not growing up with any material possessions created this hunger inside of me. Having an education was the key to unlock that door and TCU took a chance on me with academic scholarships and financial aid allowing me to be the first in my family to receive a college degree. Because of it, I was able to have a career that allows me to pay it forward by giving back.
