Prescribed For Life was started by my father Benton Tait about 30 years ago as he was transitioning away from his position as the lead formulator and product developer for a large nutrition company headquartered in the Pacific Northwest. His background is in chemistry and medicine, but decided not to take the conventional route due to being a herbalist and natural medicine practitioner most of his life. Over the years he owned and operated businesses that included cosmetics, clothing & accessories, perfumes, foods/beverages, and restaurants, but ultimately moved away from all other products and services with the exception of nutrition. About 10 years ago he decided to transition from a traditional brick-and-mortar concept to an e-commerce model and at that time enlisted my help since I had experience with computers and a degree in International Business Management. We began with a simple HTML website with just under 20 products and in the first year sold about $1,00 per month and around 5-10 units per week of the proprietary formulas he developed and trademarked. After I got more involved with the business and he made me the Vice President, I was able to help take our sales to the next level by listing all of the products on Amazon as well as several other platforms, A few years later he deiced to sell the individual ingredients that make up the proprietary formulas and we eventually expanded to over available 300 items with 3-5 variations of each product by size and weight. After some infrastructure and software upgrades we were able to take all of these products, over 1,200 total SKUs, and integrate them into one program so we would be able to more easily manage and control our inventory and online marketing efforts. Now we can update and maintain over 1,500 SKUs in real-time as our products are now listed on Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Sears, Jet, Rakuten, Newegg, Wish and our own powerful e-commerce webstore hosted by BigCommerce. We have grown by at least 20% year-over-year for the past few fiscal cycles and only see more growth and expansion in the future with zero debt!
Has it been a smooth road?
We have had a fairly smooth ride with many blessings along the way, but some of the issues we ran into included: Rapid growth that the industry and software couldn’t keep up with; inventory control maintenance in relation to software and supply chain management; warehouse size and space limitations; shipping & receiving logistics; computer or technology deficiencies; and marketplace integration challenges.

We fill a specific niche in the nutrition industry because all or most of our products are in powder form and can be easily added to smoothies, green drinks, foods or capsuled with other ingredients by the consumer. We also provide our products in large bulk packages or by the pallet for business or companies producing specific applications or encapsulating according to their own formulas.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, this is a great place to conduct an e-commerce based business and the local government is supportive and encouraging when it comes to properly operated businesses in the state of Texas. My recommendations are to obtain the proper licensing through your respective county, follow all of the rules and regulations completely, and pay the appropriate Sales tax each quarter to ensure that your business is up-to-date and compliant in all aspects.
