Meet Adrian Stecker of Adrian Stecker Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Stecker.

Adrian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually went to college to study acting and ended up getting a camera as a graduation present back in December 2015. I had no intention of becoming a professional photographer at the time but intended to make films. A friend of my needed a quick headshot at the time, so I figured I would help her out. Apparently, her friends liked it so much that they reached out to me to do theirs as well. I decided that I should probably learn how to actually be a real photographer before I start taking on all these photoshoots. So, I started watching Youtube videos and took my camera with me wherever I went to snap everything and anything. I suddenly realized that I had a natural eye for photography, so I kept at it until I finally became obsessed with it. I haven’t put down my camera ever since!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s actually been surprisingly easy going for how little experience I had when I first started out. I’ve had other professionals, who had been in the business for over a decade, tell me that I was way further along than they were at that level. Sure, there were some bumps in the road, sometimes biting off more than I can chew with certain projects. But I was never one to back away from hardships!

Adrian Stecker Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So, my business is basically split into three categories, but honestly, I’ll work/shoot anything that needs a photographer haha. The passion side of the business is definitely fashion editorials. I was never really into fashion growing up, but once I started doing photography it’s something that’s just jumped out at me as something I should be involved in. I’ve been chasing the chance to finally get my work published somewhere in print form. The other two categories are weddings and headshots/portraits. The bulk of my business definitely comes from my wedding photography gigs. I’ve actually never been to a wedding until I had to photograph one! I do thoroughly enjoy shooting weddings as it’s a joy to be able to capture two people falling in love. Lastly, I’ve been enjoying more and more doing portraits of people. One of the things I enjoy most about these sessions is that moment when someone gets to see what they look like. It’s amazing how someone’s perspective can change when you show them what they look like through the lens.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success, to me, is having the freedom to be creative without having to worry about how you’re going to support these new ideas.
