Meet Iveth Luna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iveth Luna.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Music has always been a big part of my immediate and extended family. I had my musical divine moments when I thought that this might be something I would pursue when I played classical piano or when I played the Violin. But it wasn’t my calling. I always enjoyed singing but never thought much about it until my musical outlets only became my voice and a piano. After becoming heavily involved in music at my university as a “hobby” I quickly began to realize this was much more than a hobby but a passion. I took 4 years of private vocal lessons which enabled me to do so much more like be in a band, travel, and song writer. After graduating, I knew I had to continue something like this. Almost 2 years later, here I am pursuing what I love to do.

Please tell us about your art.
I would classify myself as a singer songwriter. Writing and creating music is something I love to do because it tells a story, it can inspire, it can bring a person to the songwriter’s painting for a moment. Sometimes people need a song. When words fail, we can sing them a song because it takes on a different form to reach the soul. I believe in sharing light. Look at the news and social media- you find more darkness than you find good most of the time. You might not say there is any darkness on social media, but there is because every time people are opening up these apps, they are comparing or judging subconsciously and its eating us all up. I sing and I write not to distract, but to help heal, to help comfort, to give hope, to point to truth and something bigger than us.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I definitely believe there are pros and cons to the conditions for artists today. First off, there are so many of us which is great and that makes more for competition which encourages us to dig deeper, practice harder and therefore create better music! Another plus could be the outlets that we all have which is music sharing platforms to share with our fans. Technology and innovation has made it so much easier for people to produce and put their music out! In my own experience I believe living as an artist is difficult because of the time that it takes to create and invest. However, financially not everyone can sustain themselves without a 9-5 job. Sure, there are coffee shops, and even retail, but it doesn’t financially cut it for everyone. We are all betting on making it big to make music a full-time career and that’s where it becomes difficult because we have to make sacrifices for something we’re hoping to achieve in the future.

I believe cities like Dallas could help artists thrive by creating social networking events for artists to connect. More shows that promotes local artists could be great too. Overall creating more of a music scene by hosting more shows- this will help artists thrive.
