Meet Beto Rodarte of Beto & Son, Next Generation Mexican Food

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beto Rodarte.

Beto, please share your story with us.
After being a corporate chef for over 20 years, an opportunity presented itself to open a restaurant at Trinity Groves with my son Julian.

I was a little hesitant at the beginning because I know how difficult it is to get a restaurant off the ground. But after seeing my son’s excitement, I actually started getting serious about it. I decided it was a perfect opportunity to introduce Julian to entrepreneurs like Phil Romano.

Partnering with Phil was easy as we had opened another concept together in 1993 called: Cozymel’s.

As Julian and I put our heads together to create the concept and menu, we set out to be different, to create a next generation Mexican food place and to give our dishes a fresh twist.

Even though we present familiar items, we give our dishes a different presentation. We prepare everything fresh in the restaurant every day using some local businesses in the community such as bakeries & tortillerías. We fabricate and marinate all our meats in house daily and prepare our own fresh sauces, salsas and press flour tortillas on site.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thank God, we’ve been blessed with a great following.

Some of the obstacles and struggles have been keeping up with the volume and needed staff in order to provide quality service at all times.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beto & Son, Next Generation Mexican Food – what should we know?
What’s neat about our company is that we are a father-son team and my wife is very much involved as well which helps to keep us organized, plus my son’s best friend, Sean Kim, has become a managing partner with us. We call him Sean-Son. He’s a strong chef and businessman. This gives the restaurant a warm family atmosphere since at least one or two of us is always present to ensure our guests have the best possible experience.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Fresh & consistent food, interactive quality drinks, great friendly service, and a high energy vibe.

We focus a lot on tableside presentations like fresh tableside guacamole, liquid nitrogen margaritas & hand shaken margaritas which create a fun interactive experience for our guests.

This restaurant is one in a million, truly a gem. The food is so special, every bite makes your eyes roll with delight. And the staff, wow, they make you feel so at home and like the world revolves around you. Can a restaurant actually be sexy you ask … yes it can.
