Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Kramer.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We came to Dallas, three years ago from Los Angeles. I spent over a decade in entertainment as a pioneer in branded entertainment and my career spans television, live events, publishing, and radio. Over the past five years, my company Multibrain has taken off as a solution for entrepreneurs to manage their social media, which led us to venture out of LA to the wonderful city of Dallas.
Multibrain is a virtual company, with team members in over 12 countries. We empower social media for over 100,000 entrepreneurs including representatives from many of the largest direct selling companies in the World (think Avon). Personally, my favorite part of what we do is the training, as I speak at conventions, conferences, and events on the trends in social media, social as a new influencer and the shift in how we all communicate. My keynotes can be for as small as 20 people or as large as 30,000 in arenas. In addition to the training we provide, my company also offers a software platform for scheduling posts and managing conversations, as well as a full agency content creation team building campaigns for many companies.
A little over a year ago, while having brunch at the Grape, we saw this amazing location for rent and decided to take the plunge and commit ourselves to this city by starting a Designer Resale boutique called Jack Retro. Jack is a friend and considered family, who has been curating and collecting women’s designer vintage, accessories, jewelry, books and art, so much so, that we’ve never seen the floor of our two car garage, not to mention the multiple storage units we lease. So, with my partner Angel, myself and Jack, we put together a pretty incredible retail location for all things Designer Resale. It’s been a wild ride and an amazing year. We’ve been getting the reputation for not only our amazing product and prices, but for our parties as well. So much so, we’ve added a permanent bar in our shop serving wine and champagne during most evenings. We’ve hosted parties for the Real Housewives of Dallas, as well as many of Dallas’s finest for their birthdays. Our themes have ranged from Pajama Party to Harley’s and Rock & Roll, and even Unicorns… LOL.
Interestingly, Jack Retro and Multibrain paths have met as JR has actually provided me with a real-life case of entrepreneurship, very much to what I train so many thousands of people on a daily basis. I actually implement my own training on our own business, which makes it interesting, to say the least. In fact, just next week a bunch of Avon Representatives is descending on Dallas just to spend some time at Jack Retro and to see the city we love so much.
While Multibrain provides me the opportunity to see the world, travel all the time, and make an impact on so many peoples lives, I consider Jack Retro my safe haven, my therapy and I love spending time in the store. There is just something so special about brick and morter, a physical location, considering I’m all about computers, that is so satisfying. Not to mention, with Jack Retro, we’ve been able to meet the most incredible people of Dallas and have forged some very close relationships.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not a smooth road at all, but an incredibly fun ride for sure. The choice to move to Dallas from LA, we based on the hard line to step away from the entertainment business fully and focus on software, technology and who would have knows — fashion retail (LOL).
Multibrain has had its ups and downs as with any entrepreneurial effor, and has only one major PIVOT in its business plan…OK< maybe two. That said, when you have the drive and passion around what you are doing, the ups and downs really don’t matter. All that matters is each and every day and making it the best. I get more satisfaction out of helping someone than I do with money any day of the week.
Please tell us about Multibrain and Jack Retro.
Multibrain is just cool. People that use our product or participate in our training love us. We’ve created a sorta club like atmosphere and it’s most importantly fun. We specialize in Social Media, more specifically Social Selling and how to properly promote your business and products via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on. Marketing today is VERY different than we know it and the idea of interrupting my day or my conversation with a sales message is certainly NOT the way to do things. 99% of all brands get social media WRONG. They put a social media manager in a cubicle and tell him/her to answer comments and questions. The best have learned to create stories, create the conversations and not only participate but encourage sharing and spreading the word. I believe what’s next is the reality that we are ALL influencers and it’s not about how many followers you have, but about the quality of your community. Anyone can and will be an expert on anything they are passionate about. It’s exciting times for technology and social and my role is to bring this excitement to the entrepreneur, and eliminate any fears.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hmmmmmmm…not sure I would do anything differently. I love my path, and I love most that out of everything I’ve done in my career, I find myself using today in what I do. That is the perfect path, all the turns have led to right now.
