Meet Garrett Jackson of Jackson’s Art Studio in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Jackson.

Garrett, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started with art late in high school. My teacher at the time encouraged me to continue to explore different techniques and I landed on abstract art. I have enjoyed painting with acrylics, oils, inks, and using oil pastels to create abstract works for the last 18 years. I never took another art class but have considered myself an artist ever since.

Having a very type a personalty, diving in to abstract art making was a stretch for me. However, it allowed me to let go of organizing and managing every detail of life outside of art. While still achieving the desired outcome, I can let go of the minor details, which is very freeing. I have been honored to be featured at the Dickson Art Gallery in Jackson, TN, the current Art in the Atrium exhibit at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center in Frisco, TX, and the current Artrageous exhibit at the Frisco Discovery Center.

This past year, I took up photography and have enjoyed learning that process. I see the world in a different way now, always looking for that perfect shot, the unique textures around me, and the moment to capture that means more than the photo itself. I am moving towards taking clients in this regard and would love the opportunity to expand my skills and exposure.

My dream would be to continue to find opportunities to share my artwork. I’d love to work with local galleries and businesses to partner to bring exposure to art to life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Art is always a bumpy road. You only curate your best pieces, so most people don’t see the struggle in the studio with so many different pieces that don’t meet the personal standard. I think having no formal training as an artist or photographer has been challenging. However, I do love the challenge of learning new techniques and sharpening skills. It is always fun (and embarrassing at times) to look back and see how far you have come as an artist over time.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jackson’s Art Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
Jackson’s Art Studio’s website features my abstract artwork and photography. I am most known for my abstract paintings which I have sold to businesses and individuals over the years. I’d love to do more with photography in the future.

I am most proud of my commitment to donating 20% of proceeds from the sales of my artwork to various charities and individuals in need. My current goal is to sell a specific piece of artwork with 100% of the proceeds to go toward a family’s adoption fund.

I enjoy doing custom artwork and photography for those who are interested.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the art scene is thriving. There are so many places to go to experience local, national, and global artists. I am so pleased with local efforts to continue to bring art to the public and to create a culture of diversity and appreciation of artwork and each other.
