Meet Trailblazer Jana Zelenka-Reed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Zelenka-Reed.

Jana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
One day, I woke up and realized I had become a very unhappy tired mom and I knew I had to make a change. For me and my family! Let me take you back… I had been an athlete all my life but was injured in my senior year in high school and fell into a depression. After meeting my husband and having children, life began to revolve solely around my family. And slowly, I became an obese tired unhappy mom. Not knowing where to start, I tried to diet and did lots of cardio thinking this was the key. I got linked up with a group of body builders on Facebook and became very interested. A few months later, my journey began! I called it Journey to Stage. I was nearly 250 pounds, wearing a plus size…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth Road? Ha! It has been a rocky ride for sure! I have had to postpone shows, several times! Life happens… for starters, I have 2 boys, both with ADHD, my oldest has Aspergers and my youngest is allergic to the world, weekly allergy shots for the past two years, he should live in a bubble. Plus, I keep them both active in sports! But I have experienced some struggles with my health – I remember, I was in prep for my first show, and I got sick… I thought it was the flu. About a week and a half later, I finally went to the doctor and it turned out to be a severe case of pneumonia! I was out of the gym for nearly 3 months trying to recover. When I returned, I had to build my endurance back up. It hurt so bad. This all, while I worked a 50+ hour work week and took care of our 2 boys! Other struggles that occurred, well my husband was relocated to Kansas (from Texas – HOME!) in December 2016 and well, I stayed behind to sell our house with our two boys while they finished out the rest of the school year. During that time, I lost my job, we joined him in Kansas in June of 2017. You know whats funny, we weren’t even completely unpacked and we got word we were being relocated back to Texas! Yup. On November 2nd of 2017, we found out that come January 2018 Texas would be home again… yes, I was happy to come home, but to move our boys again, oh what a nightmare! Sure, it would have been so easy to quit, but I keep remembering that tired unhappy mom! The biggest advice I can give is don’t feel guilty for taking time for you! You have to be healthy, body and mind, to care for others! Believe in yourself and go after those dreams!

We’d love to hear more about CZechbunny Fitness (Online) and Camp Gladiator Trainer in Argyle Texas.
I was a sales executive for a well known Logistic Firm. And although I was very good at what I did, I didn’t have the passion for what I did! So when we moved to Kansas I went back to school and got certified to be a Personal Trainer. Now, I run boot camps in Argyle, in Canyon Falls, as a Camp Gladiator Trainer and offer individual personal training! I also became a wholesaler of an amazing Brazilian line of workout apparel. I am proud to carry the hottest sports tops, amazing waist trainers and the most comfortable, squat proof, and super trendy shorts, leggings, and capris!

My passion and level of compassion for my clients set me apart! Because I was the girl who had to work hard to be fit, I understand what it takes. I was never the naturally “skinny” girl… I get it!

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
There seems to be a mindset that a female needs to look a certain way… and some may think a particular female in my industry is too buff, or “manly” looking! I think these types of mentality are ignorant of the amount of work it takes to be so fit. I feel that we should celebrate their work. I also feel that too often other women tend to judge, put down and compete with women who care for their bodies and work hard.
