Meet Kelly Archibald of Speak Volumes in East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Archibald.

Kelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband is an attorney and he was looking for someone to help with projection and presence in the courtroom. He was unable to find anyone who could help. He turned to me and said,”You could do this”. You may wonder why he thought this. He thought it because I earned a vocal performance scholarship in college and have a degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. My background in performance and helping people meet their speech goals gave me insight into how to help him and others present well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say for the most part the road has been fairly smooth. Of course, in any endeavor there are struggles. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing family, working at home and focusing on a business all at once. There are definitely positives to it all, but interruptions and dogs barking can get me distracted very easily.
One of my first phone calls with someone in entertainment had me very nervous and I was so worried about my dogs barking that I took the phone call in my closet. During the call, I learned that this individual loved dogs and had a non-profit benefiting dogs. I have learned t relax somewhat and not worry as much about things I can’t control.

Speak Volumes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is a boutique communications business. We offer communication coaching that includes media training, accent reduction, projection, nonverbal language and interview skills. We also have an arm of the business that offers press and publicity for artists in the music industry.

The first thing I am most proud of is a campaign for a contestant on NBC’s hit show The Voice. We were able to present her to the DFW metroplex on tv and radio from the weekly parties we had to promote her. She finished in the top 5 on the show.

The other matter that I am most proud of is helping a chef prepare for The James Beard House and all the media that week entails. It was wonderful getting to know the chef world and learning so much from him.
I would say my personal connection to my clients sets me apart. I see each client as unique and operate on a very personal level. I am invested in their moving toward success and will do all I can to help make that happen.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Initially, when I started this business, all I wanted to be able to do was to pay my family back for the investment. I reached that goal. Now, I personally define success in more broad terms. Obviously, I want to be a good steward of the funds I earn, but I also want to help make someone else’s life better. I truly love to see clients reach their dreams.
