Meet Brandi Dearmon of Bliss Body and Barre in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Dearmon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always had an active lifestyle that continued beyond high school cheerleading and gymnastics. After gaining a “freshman 30” during my first semester in college, I started exercising consistently to get back in shape and feel confident in my skin again. Graduating with a bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Eastern Kentucky University, I knew I wanted a career in the health and fitness community.

I was fortunate to accept an internship in Northern Virginia training athletes to improve speed, agility, strength and balance. Then upon graduating, I started Personal Training, but put my fitness career on hold once I married my husband, Shane and we moved to Germany for his military career.

It wasn’t until after the birth of our first daughter that I decided to compete in Fitness shows on military installations and one NPC Figure show once we moved back to the states.

Then, after our second daughter was born, I waited almost two years before starting my journey to become healthy and fit again and that’s when I knew I wanted to somehow get back into training and helping others work on reaching their fitness goals. I started a small accountability group on Facebook to help some of my friends and family learn more about implementing a healthy lifestyle along with exercise to achieve their fitness goals.

While we were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, I was a part of the Spouses Club and started a Fitness Group where I coordinated an Outdoor Bootcamp style workout for anyone that wanted to join. We met 3 days/per week at a park and brought our children. Every Friday we would try a new fitness activity together; from TRX to Rock Climbing. It was amazing to watch these women break down barriers and achieve fitness goals.

After my husband retired from the military in 2016, we moved to Frisco, Texas and while my online community was still thriving, I really missed the camaraderie that I was a part of with my bootcamp. I decided to start working at a gym as a personal trainer last year and while I loved my job, I really desired more than just training clients.

I met my business partner, Christin Bones through a Facebook group for moms and we soon met up for coffee and our friendship began there. She is a seasoned business owner that recently relocated to Texas from Florida and was interested in starting a new business here. She had mentioned something about becoming barre certified and we decided to do that training in New York City with Exhale Spa. We also knew that we wanted to start our own business together and we started the planning for our new boutique style studio, Bliss Body and Barre. We offer barre fitness classes, HIIT, Tabata, Yoga, Personal Training, and Spa Services.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not smooth, but not too bumpy either. I have always believed that bumps along the way only prepare you for bigger things to come. Before re-engaging to my fitness career, I worked for the Department of the Army as a Civilian in marketing. As a busy mom of 3 daughters and a military wife, it’s not always an easy decision to leave a successful career to pursue a new one, but I also believe that you should follow your passion and wake up every day loving what you do. For me, that wasn’t marketing, but thankful for that experience as it has helped me and our business because of the work experience.
Traveling to NYC two weekends in a row when we both have families wasn’t easy either, but with the support of our amazing spouses, it all worked out.

Bliss Body and Barre – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our studio, Bliss Body and Barre is a one stop shop for all things related to self-care. We know that as women, whether you are a single young adult or a mom of many, sometimes we put ourselves last and that can lead to unhealthy lifestyles and not being able to complete your own self-care. Our hope is that everyone that walks into our studio leaves better than they were before they came. We want to help our clients achieve the bliss they desire in areas of health, fitness, and self-care.

Bliss Body and Barre are Barre Certified by Exhale, the most credible, comprehensive, and in-depth barre teacher training program. At 40 hours, exhale’s program is 3x the industry standard, and is ACE, NASM, AND AFAA- approved. Pair that with Christin’s 13 years as an esthetician and spa owner along with my background in exercise science and fitness, I believe we can help our clients achieve a high level of bliss.

Our studio will also offer yoga, personal training, and nutrition workshops to both members and our community. We want to offer a complete wellness experience to our clients.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe that everyone defines this differently. To me, success is being able to live a life that I truly want and deserve, not settling for average. I think we all can become better with each passing day.

I don’t live a life of perfection, but focus on daily progress and knowing that I am becoming the best version of me and what I am capable of accomplishing. I also believe that having the ability to make a positive impact on someone other than yourself is a marker for success.
