Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Adams.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story is one of self-discovery and authenticity. As with many young adults trying to find themselves in a world full of carbon copies and media images, I spent the ages of 16-22 struggling to discover my authentic self. I felt like I was living in a box that wasn’t my own, partly due to outside opinions of what is expected, and partly due to my own inner dialogue. However, I knew that the longer I allowed myself to live within the constraints of those borders, the harder it would become to step outside them, to challenge the limitations by moving beyond them.
At 22, I started to get this compelling urge to do something different, so I took my first yoga teacher training and began teaching classes. It was in those early days of my yoga teaching career that something finally shifted in me. I found my voice – I found myself. I also found a passion and appreciation for the intelligence of the human body, and that passion led me straight to chiropractic school. My journey in chiropractic has transformed my life in so many ways. Not only has it shifted my view of the world and of the human body, but the journey also gave me my family. I met my husband in school and we had our son shortly after graduation.
We are currently busy building our office together, Calibration Chiropractic. Opening a practice together is two fold. One the one hand, it’s about the people we will serve and the lives we will touch, but on the other hand, it’s an action we are taking to show others (and our son) that life isn’t always about trying not to fall. It’s about loving yourself enough to let yourself fall. It’s about trying something different and going somewhere new; it’s about the growth that comes out of that.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of our biggest struggles has also been one of our biggest blessings. We get to work as a family and take our 9 month old with us on the journey. To do all this with our baby, to include him as we create a life of purpose, has always been our goal, but it has been a struggle because it has slowed down our momentum. While it is something I am proud of, I also have those days where I am overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that needs to be done between wife, mom, business owner, and doctor.
On top of running on “baby time,” we are also doing most of the buildout renovations on our own, which comes with some significant learning curves, blood, sweat, and tears. We’ve painted the office, pulled up carpet, built our reception desk and coffee bar table, and we’re currently teaching ourselves how to install vinyl plank flooring. It’s a good thing my husband and I both love the DIY life and we love learning! The amount of time and intention and passion that we are spending on our renovation is a symbol to us of the way we approach our practice as a whole. Our work is a labor of love, and it’s a commitment to putting our best self forward and serving with all we have. It’s also a symbol of our willingness to continually learn, which doesn’t end with DIY skills but rather, carries over into our pursuit of knowledge as doctors.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Calibration Chiropractic – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Calibration Chiropractic is not your average chiropractic office. We do things differently. We focus on Neuro-Structural chiropractic. What this means is we know the brain controls the entire body, so we focus on adjusting the spine in a way that improves brain function and efficiency, which improves overall health. We apply chiropractic differently. In addition to chiropractic, we draw from the disciplines of functional neurology, yoga, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). We use goal focused exams looking at function, advanced technology to measure it, and specific adjustments to restore it. Through this functional approach we have seen complicated health challenges such as seizure disorders, Parkinsons, tinnitus, restless leg syndrome, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy resolve or greatly improve.
While we love helping people who currently have significant health challenges, we also have a passion for prevention. Prevention starts early. We aim to empower our families and communities to live healthier lives from the beginning. Because of this, one of my biggest passions is specific, neuro-structural pre-peri-post natal and pediatric chiropractic care.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
All of our current planning is geared towards opening our practice this fall, but we have a 5-10 year vision of opening a treatment facility. This vision began as a passion to help bring specific chiropractic care to addiction/eating disorder outreach programs, but it has since expanded into a vision of a brain-based health center to serve not only addictions but also, developmental delays, anxiety, and neurologic disorders. I’m not sure how the journey is going to unfold to get us there, but I do know without a doubt that it is something my husband and I were put here to do.
