Meet Debbie Martin of Debbie Martin Photography in Rockwall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Martin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Debbie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been a part of the creative field. I started as a painter, just for fun. I loved abstract art and then I got involved in portraits. There’s something really amazing about creating art, no matter what medium it is. Photography has been so fulfilling and a wonderful creative release. It gives me that instant gratification of seeing my work right then and there instead of waiting to finish a painting. Capturing someone in a moment that turns out to be a great shot is what motivates me. I love the posed looks, but getting a candid shot always ends up being my favorites. I started in photography because I was in a slump painting. I needed to be really inspired. When I first started photography, it was like a surge of creative light that ignited that passion of creating again. It’s fun and it’s really awesome to allow my clients to get creative as well. I love the challenge it brings and I’m always striving to be better. I don’t think I will ever stop learning in this field.

Today, I shoot a lot of portraits, lifestyle and models. My clients range from seniors, models and those that are looking to have cool creative shots, headshots or just photos that are fun and allow them to be glamorous.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth, every business has its struggles. I think for me it has been narrowing down my niche and style. I really focused an entire year on my editing style. I wanted something fresh and consistent. Next, was me figuring out what I loved and going towards those clients. I think for many photographers we want to be busy and do whatever. I really wanted to do what I loved and attract those clients that wanted that look and style. I think it’s so hard not taking clients that only wanted pictures and more concerned with the price was the hardest. I wanted to stay focused on the brand I’m building. Also, the other struggles are prices. There are so many photographers that are willing to do sessions for hardly anything. You have to attract those clients that are willing to pay for your creative style. Nothing is easy, but I try to stay positive and believe in what I’m doing. 🙂

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Debbie Martin Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Debbie Martin Photography focuses on portraits, headshots, lifestyle and fashion photography. I would say, I’m known for my fashion photography and lifestyle shots. I do a lot of models looking for portfolio building and those clients that want cool and creative portraits. I’m most proud as a company in giving my clients the VIP treatment. I go beyond to make sure they get the look they want and achieve more than they expect. I love allowing them to be creative as well on shoots.

I try to stand out by not just having the posed looks, but challenging myself to achieve different yet beautiful images. I’m passionate about what I do and I want to give the best quality images and shoots.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see a lot of lifestyle and branding photography taking off. I think the culture we are in promotes a lot of selfies lol so more people want nice shots for social media. That’s great for photographers, especially when everyone is seeking the best images for personal or branding.
