Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Jenkins.
Kay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Being from Louisiana (the south) sex and sexuality discussion is like taboo. It exists but no one can speak publicly about it without being judged. I have friends/associates that are swingers, polyamory, lesbian, gay, queer, etc. They open up to me with things I’ve never heard of. There is so much I didn’t know. That is because the education isn’t there. I always wonder why? Why are we so judgmental just because something isn’t for us? The happiest people I know are the most free. I love learning about sex and feel like sex knowledge is power. One day, I thought why not start a podcast as a platform for sex discussion. It can be a means of education to those who want to know but afraid to ask.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been as smooth as I would like it to be. Currently, I use a room at my house to do my interviews over the phone or go to the guest (if the guest has a business). Things would be so much easier if I could use a studio or record from somewhere that is better equipped. This would allow my guest a location and better quality. Getting funding or sponsorship is hard also because a lot of sponsors want you to have so many downloads or followers on social media. I’ve been doing this for over a month now and have over 200 downloads but its nothing compared to what is needed for the sponsors. It’s just the beginning and believe things will work out over time. Also, it’s a lot that goes into it beyond just audio. I didn’t know what was all involved initially. To be honest, I enjoy finding the guest and having the conversations so much! but editing the audio is so time-consuming and can take the fun out of it considering I’m technology challenged.
Please tell us about Master Bait’N Podcast.
My podcast is Master Bait’N. I felt that the name would be associated with sexual activities when you hear the name. However, it’s spelled the way it is because the podcast is meant as a means to become masters of baiting your partner. After listening to the podcast you learn so much that I’m sure you didn’t know before. You can take that information and apply it to your relationship. You wouldn’t believe the feedback I receive! “Kay, I’m learning so much!” or “Kay, I have my partner listening now because its good for the both of us!”
I’m not a specialist or sex expert so that’s why my guest is the experts. My guest is usually a known counselor, sex expert, sexologist or someone living the lifestyle. The person living the lifestyle addresses questions or advise those of us looking in from the outside the details so we can stop with assumption.
I think this sets me apart from others because I’m learning like my listeners so I know what guest(s) is needed.
I’m proud that I provide a platform for sex and sexuality discussion without judgment. Everyone has a voice but is afraid to use it because of the criticism. My podcast is the voice for everyone who isn’t heard that wants to be heard. My podcast is educational so you can think outside the box in your relationship. My podcast can be found on iTunes Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Breaker, Castbox, Overcast, RadioPublic & Pocket Casts. I’m always searching for guest so if anyone is interested please email me.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I wouldn’t do anything different. This is a hobby for me right now. Once I receive sponsors, etc. my goal is to make this my main job because I love getting with my guest so much! The stories are there so why not get them and share them in a positive forum? The way I’m having to get to my destination will make me appreciate it and value it more once I’m there. I never would’ve imagined being featured or interviewed for VoyageDallas Magazine but guess what its happening!
