Meet Destiny Lewis of Words to Live By Shoppe in South Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Lewis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Destiny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, my cousins and I would say “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” As I grew older, I learned that wasn’t true. Words do hurt and they are a lot powerful than we think. Words tend to shape our perspective about ourselves as well as the world around us and I wanted to make people more aware of that. One of my favorite things to do is to love on others and share Jesus. I’m definitely not a saint, but what I do know is that Jesus was the most selfless person that walked this earth and he loved well.

Our thoughts of who we are and where we are going are all rooted in words, I want to make sure we are all living by words that are worth living by. Words that speak life, words that love on others and create good vibes.

I started designing t-shirts because I figured it was a good way to get my message out. As a new mom, I needed a cute tee I could throw with a pair of jeans, shorts, tight, etc.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been smooth. When I first started, I found out I was pregnant with our second child and I was in graduate school. I believe timing is everything and even though I had just launched the Words to Live By Shoppe, I felt it was necessary that it be last on my priority list. I’m not the do all, be all type of woman, so I had no problem making this the last thing on my priority list.

Another struggle I have faced is building my brand on social media. I’m not a huge fan of social media and I don’t post a lot.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Words to Live By Shoppe – what should we know?
Words to Live By Shoppe is an apparel store that sells t-shirts. T-shirts that inspire people to love on others and love themselves. The words I put on our tees all have a story. It’s not just about the look, but the message is everything. I am most proud of the growth of the Words to Live By Shoppe and the message that’s being sent out to challenge people to not only speak life but think life.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Time management. I am a working wife and mom of two toddlers, I’m always needed. If I’m not intentional on how I’m spending my time, then I tire out pretty quickly.
