Meet Trailblazer Alexis Lara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Lara.

Alexis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started getting into makeup when I was about 16. I always loved to play with the different colors & I remember getting in trouble for wanting to put makeup on at such a young age. When I was 17, I started watching YouTube videos and would recreate looks I saw. Ever since then, I had the support from my family to make the beauty industry my career. I didn’t have the most expensive makeup but I learned to work with what I had. As of today being 19, I’m a certified makeup artist from Boss beauty makeup academy. I enjoy seeing people reactions when I complete their makeup. It give me a sense of accomplishment & joy. I love to make people feel good about them self with or with makeup. Makeup just enhances your natural beauty & that’s what I like to bring out in my clients.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think my journey has been good, not the best but good. It’s a long process and I’m learning to understand that. I had some struggles with self-confidence thinking I wasn’t good at doing makeup because everybody else’s was so colorful & creative. But I learned to put that aside and do what I can do best. The beauty industry is hard, it’s very popular nowadays. Lots of people are talented and are trying to make it as a big career. My best advice is to never give up. Always keep practicing. Put yourself out there. Recreate looks, push yourself to do looks you’d never thought you’d try.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about _makeup.by.lexx_ – what should we know?
I specialize in makeup. I would say my strong suit is eyeshadow. I love to blend colors and create amazing looks. I would say, I’m known for making someone look completely different in a way they never knew they could look. I think what sets me aside from others is that with or without a career in the makeup industry, I’ll always enjoy doing it for my clients and myself. It’s a passion I have.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
For a mentor, you need to have someone who’s always going to support you and push you to do better. In my case, it’s my family, they have always supported me. They pushed me to keep on doing makeup. They will always send me looks they would want me to recreate. A major thing is I was terrified to make my YouTube channel but they said go for it & I did. I love making YouTube videos and hearing feed back from my viewers. Make sure your mentor is supporting you and putting your work out on every social media possible. The more platforms you have the better.
