Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Brown.
Paula, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We’re an event styling duo by the name of Simply Paush. Our story is interesting in that neither of us was looking for a new business venture in the slightest. We found each other on complete accident that can only be summed up in one word: fate. As strangers and new to the industry, we met while working the same wedding that turned out to be a disaster in every way. We really had to come together and push each other to make it through this experience that neither of us could have gone through without the help and hard work of the other. My mom looked at me after it was over and said: “THAT’S who you need on your team.” Moms are always right because 4 years later we’re full-time entrepreneurs who are still pushing each other and having an amazing time doing it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! If you’ve ever seen that image that says “Success: what people think it looks like” and a straight road is pictured and you can easily see the finish line, then it says “Success: what it actually looks like” and it’s a road with several turns, detours and failures and the direction it’s going is completely indecipherable and the finish line is nowhere in sight… that’s exactly what it’s like. Some of our biggest struggles have been: Knowing our worth and charging accordingly, trusting the process and not getting discouraged during failures or stagnant periods and taking the leap to go full-time.
Simply Paush Event Planning & Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Simply Paush is an event planning and design company that specializes in event decor, floral styling, and balloon installations. We’re known for our attention to detail and unique design style. We love being able to transform a blank space and create things that make a huge visual impact. Two things set us apart. One is that we’re a one-stop shop. We offer planning, design, floral, stationery, balloon installations, custom photo backdrops, you name it! The other is that we’re a duo which means our clients receive two planners dedicated to making their event a success!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment would have to be when we both finally took the leap to go full-time. We love challenging cookie-cutter ideas of what success is and should look like. We’re proof that you can make a living doing something you absolutely love and don’t have to conform to a typical 9-5 if it’s not for you.
