Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Dorsey.
Barbara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a stay at home mom of four children; Ella, Grayson, Nathan, Hayden, and wife of 11 years to Matt Dorsey. I was in the education field for 9 years, 3 as a teacher and 6 as a high school counselor. My heart and desire was to stay home with my children and so the idea of With Joy Wholesale was born. I started very simply adding friends to a group where I offered a buy in type of group, and was really just doing it for fun. People started adding friends, and more friends, then more friends. By time I knew it our group had grown to 5,000! I was working a full time job, packing orders after I put kids to bed and it was crazy! I knew I loved doing this and it would be a way for me to stay home with my kids and possibly make an income while sharing the gospel with other women. My heart for women, fashion and sharing my faith led me to start With Joy Boutique in 2015 and I haven’t looked back. We are still learning each day how to keep things ticking, what works best for our little business, and we are so thankful for our customers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road! As a small business owner and entrepreneur I am constantly learning. I am learning what works best whether it be shipping methods, vendors to use, and ways to market and promote our company and so much more. I am seriously a constant work in progress. Along with running a business I had our 4th baby and still have a 3 year old at home during the week. Having a newborn and keeping a business running is so hard!! I have had to learn to not be so OCD about some things, rely on others to help, and slow down even when I feel like I can’t. Trusting in God with this business has been my number one key to success.
With Joy Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
With Joy Boutique is a small family owned business offering affordable, trendy clothing for women. We specialize in women of all ages and all sizes. We also make it a priority to make our business a mission field for other women to feel safe, confident, and hear the gospel and how good their God is in the good times and the bad. What am I most proud of? I am proud of my With Joy tribe as I like to call them. We work with an amazing team of moms that love With Joy like their own. There is a lot that goes into owning your own business but knowing people have your back all the time is a lifesaver. I feel like what sets us apart from the rest is our openness with our faith and making it a priority to relate to other women, love on them. And provide clothing for confidence.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Your Why. I believe in order to be successful at something you have to have a “why”. Why are you putting your all into something? What is your story? My passion to provide for my family and share my testimony is my why. Watching women light up when they wear our clothing is my why. Getting messages from my customers thanking me for sharing a particular devotion because they needed to hear that specific thing, that day is my why. If I can touch one person through my business I feel that is success.
