Life and Work with AshMarie Boyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to AshMarie Boyd.

Thanks for sharing your story with us AshMarie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m the founder and owner of Ash Hunt PR, a social media strategist, co-producer of Millennials to Watch and co-founder of Go Know Media. I was diagnosed with Systemic and Discoid Lupus in 2014, while a sophomore in college. Due to chronic fatigue, medications and treatment, I was unable to work long and exhaustive hours. I’ve always been passionate about assisting local small business owners with their start-up ideas, writing copy, advertising and event planning. With a degree in Journalism and five plus years of operation management, I developed a boutique creative firm that cultivates new brands and refines the established ones.

I’ve created a space that allows those of us who live in those two elements to coexist. I’ve always been so passionate about social media, creative writing and project management so it only made sense to help others develop in those lanes as well, while working at my own pace as I fought to stay in remission with Lupus.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Living with a chronic illness has not been easy, but it’s been a learning process. I’ve learned to master time management, delegate, say no to the things that I simply cannot do and take time for self-care.

But along the way, I’ve had an opportunity to advocate for women of color who may not have a platform. Iive spoken to, encouraged and shared the stories of those disabled and alone. Through healing, I’ve had the opportunity to inspire others.

The best advice that I’ve received on this path of entrepreneurship and self-discovery is “to thine own self be true” and to “always speak the truth, even if your voice shakes,”

Please tell us about Ash Hunt PR.
I’ve created a one-stop shop for dreamers and doers who want to create but don’t know where to start. That’s how Ash Hunt PR began! I work primarily with small business owners who have less than five employees to capture and refine their ideas for events, public relations, social media strategy and marketing.

I specialize in copywriting, specifically. I like to interview my subjects or clients before I create content for them to ensure that I am accurately representing them and making their story come to life.

I am most proud to be a published writer in The Dallas Weekly for the past 3 years. Each year, the DW publishes an article that I co-produce called Millennials to Watch. MTW is an exclusive list of millennials from around the metroplex who are top industry leaders and have direct and intentional connections with their specific, and often-times, marginalized communities.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love listening to Audible on my commutes or road trips. I’m currently listening to Gabrielle Union’s “We’re Going To Read More Wine.”

As a true journalist and social media maven, I rely on social media an current events to keep me up-to-speed on what’s trending, what’s socially relevant.

In my free time, I love to follow other writers and community servants and see what they’re up to. Lately, I’ve been fan-girling over Demetria L. Lucas, Damon Young of Very Smart Brothas, Angela Rye and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
