Check out Jessie Welsh’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Welsh.

Jessie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve known since the 8th grade that my story would include music, and specifically the piano. What I couldn’t have known then was how diverse, challenging, and ultimately rewarding this journey would be! I completed my undergraduate degrees in Piano Performance and Music Education in my home state of FL. In 2014, my husband and I moved to Dallas, so I could pursue my master’s degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University. During my studies, I had the privilege to glean from a group of phenomenal professors, gain diverse experience as a graduate teaching fellow, and work alongside highly creative colleagues at a local studio. Those experiences shaped my desire to launch a creative and uplifting studio where children can learn the language of music in various styles, gain confidence in performance, and create and collaborate alongside their peers. Primo Piano Studios was born in 2017 in East Dallas! As I continue to grow my studio, I will also hone my pianistic and teaching skills by pursuing a doctorate at Texas Christian University. In many ways, this is just the beginning!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I view my role as an artist as two-fold: performer and teacher. As a performer, I seek to create experiences that connect with my audiences, whether they be residents at assisted living homes, a congregation at church, or an audience in a traditional concert hall. As a teacher, I create by guiding my students to realize their potential, persevere through difficulty, and perform with confidence. This cultivation of beauty and sharing it with others guides all that I do, in both my own art and the training of young artists.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
As a classical pianist, I once believed that success was a narrow road ending in sold-out performances in concert halls. I have since found that personal success as a musician has many forms. Today’s artists need to wear many hats and exhibit professionalism as performers, teachers, collaborators, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers. While I pursue the everyday, gritty work of practicing and teaching, I also aim to complement my skills as a pianist with research, collaboration, professional development, outreach, and business planning.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Information about Primo Piano Studios and my ongoing work as an artist and teacher is available online! You can also catch my performances and my students’ performances next season at White Rock Coffee, Brookdale White Rock, and the Meyerson Symphony Center!
