Meet Chris Lofland of BlueWave Fitness in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Lofland.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up competing in gymnastics and started coaching in high school. I coached for a few different recreational gyms and worked with some mid level women’s competitive teams until I was in my mid 20’s. I then opened up a fitness/gymnastics gym in North Richland Hills with a partner. It was through that gym and experience that I discovered what I really wanted to do. So, in 2015 I came back to Fort Worth and opened up BlueWave Fitness where we grew fast due to my unique approach to fitness. We have a high concentration on all around health with progressive strength, endurance, mobility, and flexibility worked into each class and individual program. We aren’t your quick fix crash course gym. We are designed to make you feel better over time which is sustainable.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a pretty rough start. We had to move multiple times due to buildings being sold, expansions, changes in landlords, and more… We have finally found a long-term home just down the street from Bluebonnet Circle near TCU and are happy to be here for a long time!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BlueWave Fitness – what should we know?
We are a small gym. We only take on 65 clients total into our facility. We run Small Group Strength and Conditioning Classes and I coach Competitive Weightlifting. Outside of that I do a lot of individualized programming for clients and athletes online.

My background in gymnastics has been very influential in my programs. I have structured everything on a level by level progressive program with clear goals within each level to know when the client is ready to move onto something more challenging without the risk of injury. We use this system across the board for strength, endurance, mobility and flexibility. This ensures that our clients have clear set goals for each exercise and that they are progressing at the proper rate for their body.

Outside of our clients progressing into skills they never thought they were capable of my biggest reward is that people feel better on a daily basis. Aches, pains, low energy, etc.; we are seeing those things go away on a regular basis.

We don’t put together one program and force everyone to do that program. We designed our programs around the individual. Your program is catered to your specific needs.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I adjust to the individual as opposed to the individual adjusting to me. This allows me to successfully work with all types of people and personalities.
