Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Crabb.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One cold hungry night, my daughter’s youth minister at our Church, Skillman Church of Christ in East Dallas, asked if I would cook for summer camp! I did and it was then I was reborn! …as a chef!
I began cooking regular Wednesday Night Dinners at church and haven’t stopped in 22 years. Those sweet members have been my official taste testers through all kinds of themes and on-the-job training techniques! Themes like Dining through the Decades, Trips around the World, Hot Dogs of America, Foreign Holidays, American Holidays, Deep South Month and South Beach Summer, you get the idea. Wednesday Nights were filled with hats and props and steaming chafers of blue ribbon specials! Oh yeah, we like to dress up, don’t you?
I have attended many cooking schools and trade shows over the years including The Culinary Institute of America in New York. Those early years of cooking led to small party inquiries, larger school banquets and other church invitations. All of a sudden, out of the Catering snowball, there was a Web Site and business cards, and of course, embroidered aprons!
My company has catered for every school in the neighborhood, most of the churches, lots of start-up businesses and also big downtown firms, hundreds of East Dallas Real estate parties, and schools and clubs all over DFW. But our focus is now on Weddings! Big, bold, loud, fun and beautiful weddings! We have become preferred vendors at many of Dallas’ event venues, but our love is with catering and helping to plan events at The Filter Building at White Rock Lake, right at my front door.
Has it been a smooth road?
I say this humbly, it’s always been easy. I love to entertain, so ideas and enthusiasm have been there all along.
Clients come by word of mouth and the loyalty follows.
When you make good tasting food with real cream and butter and salt and sugar, people are pleased.
The only struggle is not being able to accept every client.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Grace Cafe Catering and Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Grace Cafe caters weddings, banquets, and all types of events. We also coordinate weddings, both ceremonies and receptions. We specialize in banquet catering. We are known for tasty food, decorated buffets, and good looking servers! I am most proud of our reputation. Our loyalty following is amazing. I think our table decorating sets us apart.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like Dallas because it’s always becoming. People complain about all the construction, but it’s a healthy sign of the good economy and constant progress!
I wish we hadn’t overbuilt pharmacies, liquor stores, and tattoo parlors. I also wish that Dallas and Texas as a whole would give more incentives to the film industry. (I am a background actress when I’m not at events!)
