Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Griffith.
Vickie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out 20 years ago searching for answers to heal my own body from crippling digestive issues and the inability to maintain a healthy weight after years of gaining and losing weight. I decided to become a Certified Personal Trainer and then received my Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor license soon after. I began to realize that the one-size-fits all, cookie-cutter plan that I had followed myself for years, was all wrong. And that my digestive (gut) issues all stemmed from the wrong foods for my biochemistry AND workouts that were taxing my Sympathetic Nervous System (fight or flight responds.) But there was still something that I was holding onto that was preventing me from fully releasing my weight. That was the psychic weight from years of abuse from men and shaming myself that I was hauling around like a heavy backpack. As I began to heal my own self through movement and the proper foods for my body, I decided to niche my business to women…helping them heal from the inside-out through my customized (because there is no one-size fits all) 360 approach that includes the whole person -Mind, Body, and Soul. I call this the Vickie G Method. At age 44. I look and feel better now than I ever did in my 20’s and 30’s. I am currently focusing my business on my Transformation Coaching while writing my memoire detailing my entire journey as I live my best life physically and spiritually.
Has it been a smooth road?
I will add that I was my own biggest obstacle as I struggled to love my whole self from the inside out. I spent my 20’s and early 30’s beating my body up from the shame of past abuse. Once I got to the root cause of my pain, the digestive issues went away and the weight melted off. I now have a passion for working with all women but particularly the younger ones that are struggling with past trauma, body image and embracing the skin they are in. I will add that in 2008 the bottom dropped out of Personal Training with the recession. I lost over half of my clientele because they couldn’t afford Personal Training. So I started working with large groups as a Group Fitness Instructor.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I would say my work with women health/wellness needs is my specialty. I provide a clear blueprint for them to live their best self-inside and out through my 360 Approach to diet and workout that is customized to them. We all have a unique biochemistry and body type so we can’t use a one-size-fits all approach. My Vickie G Method is a total body transformation.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. Dallas is such an amazing city for health/wellness businesses to flourish. I feel like there is always going to be a need for Health Professionals whether they specialize in nutrition, workouts, or body work such as acupuncture or massage. And Dallas residents aren’t so caught up in the trends like other cities. Don’t get me wrong, they like current and fresh. But there is a smart consumer here that can sense fitness nonsense.
