Meet Mary Lyons of Wealth Woman in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Lyons.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mary. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In a world that has conditioned us to stop dreaming, I want you to dream again! I’m Mary Lyons, the Wealth Woman.

I started as a financial advisor in late 2006, right after I got married. I had been in the mortgage industry and I knew I wanted to make the jump to financial services. I felt a moral obligation to help people build a solid and reliable financial future. I could tell that the traditional way of doing things was not always a sound way – and that proved out for many people in the following years as the market collapsed.

One of the things I have learned over the past 12 years is that most people tell me they are comfortable and happy. However, when I ask them how their life would be different if they won the lottery, they say things like, “I would quit my job.” “I would spend more time with my kids.” “I would travel the world.” My follow up question is always, “Why aren’t you doing that now?” And the answer is almost always, “I don’t have the money,” or “I don’t have the time.”

Isn’t that interesting?

Most of the people I work with aren’t unhappy. In fact, many of them seem really happy. But ultimately, they work with me because they have one common goal. They want to replace their current lifestyle with guaranteed income as soon as possible so that they can spend their time doing the things they really want to do, rather than the things they feel they have to do. I built my business to help people replace their lifestyle income as quickly as possible so that they could be free to spend their time and energy doing whatever they want.

I’m a second-generation financial advisor in the top 1% of our industry nationwide. I’ve taught at several national conferences, and nationally-known financial firms have hired me to train their advisors on the remarkable strategies my clients get to take advantage of.

I have built my business by helping others get what they want. Today my business is almost entirely referral driven. My clients want a better life for themselves and the generations that follow.

Has it been a smooth road?
I got into the business just as the market was collapsing. So, the first few years were hard. I also moved to Dallas and only knew 2 people, which made it even harder. I hired a business coach and started networking. At first, I went to as many as 8 events a week. Sometimes a breakfast, sometimes lunches or happy hours. Every time I had the opportunity to go to coffee with someone I did. My goal was always to make several meaningful introductions for them. The more frequently I did that, the more business I got. As I helped other people get what they wanted, they started asking how they could help me. And as they realized I really wanted them to succeed, many of the people I met also became clients.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wealth Woman story. Tell us more about the business.
There is no reason to settle for an ordinary future when it’s possible to live out your wildest dreams. Think about what you would do if money weren’t a concern. What are your passions? How would you spend your time if you could do whatever you wanted?

My focus is helping families build a plan to replace lifestyle income as soon as possible so that they can live the life they truly want. By optimizing income potential at any stage of life, we have more freedom to live our dreams.

We handle both investment and insurance needs, balancing the need for growth with long term distribution strategies.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We are in growth mode right now. We are bringing on new clients and creating easy to digest content. I think there is a lack of great, easy to understand financial information. When you try to do research online it’s easy to find biased opinion or really technical information that can be difficult to understand. I am on a mission to create financial content that is both interesting and informative. I think there is a big need for a voice that seeks to educate the public on how to create financial success. We are building an online curriculum and have been invited to speak at national conferences and local chambers.
