Meet Michael Morgan of Michael Morgan Hairstyling in Oak Lawn and Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Morgan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was inspired to become a hairstylist after doing chair massage in the lobby of Roger Thompson salon. Roger Thompson was Vidal Sassoon’s right-hand man back in the day. I knew nothing about hair, never touched a head of hair besides my own. I knew something was special about the way they did hair. I had no idea what I was feeling but knew I had to learn! I have continued my education throughout the years with Vidal Sassoon, Toni & Guy and more. I feel it is important to always learn and grow.

I am inspired every day by beauty and strive to make everyone I touch look and feel beautiful.

21 years later, I still love what I do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would have to say the biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career was when I chased my dream of becoming a Hollywood hairstylist for film/television.

I’ve always been a sucker for celebrities, like they are gods…lol. When I started doing hair the “Rachel” was all anyone wanted, I thought to myself, I need to be Jennifer Aniston’s hairstylist! The seed was planted. And I had always wanted to live by the ocean. Then one of my co-workers had 3 superstar country singers as clients. Fire got stronger for me.

With a few connections and opportunity, I was doing a lot of media, a part in a reality show (never aired), local indie movie….and the ultimate…an internship on a major national tv show!

Finally, a golden opportunity…. a move to LA. I had the resume, friends in the biz…I was in! I made the move, I lost all my clientele here in Dallas. After a few years I returned home. It has been the biggest challenge to hold my head up and rebuild my clientele.

Michael Morgan Hairstyling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m most proud and grateful for the many different avenues of hair design I gotten to experience. The charity work I do has been the greatest result of my experiences!

Early in my career, I had the gift of doing my grandmother’s hair who suffered from Alzheimer’s…it meant the world to me to make her feel pretty. In first half of my career I lost 2 very special matriarchal figures in my career to cancer…. later losing my mom to cancer. I offer hair and wig services at no cost, fundraising and volunteer work for cancer organizations.

Services include: cutting, color, extensions, wigs, up-do’s, straightening, smoothing treatments

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is measured from within.

What I mean by that, is what good have you done? Have you made people beautiful, have you learned something, have you appreciated your blessings and given back?

For me: my success is my blessing! I have a career I love and I get to make a difference in people’s lives on many levels. That is success to me.
