Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Bingaman.
Logan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up I moved around a lot, my father was in the Air Force, so every year it was a new place to call home and another home to say goodbye to. As my environment around me changed, few things remained constant in my youth, creativity was one of those constants. The creativity came to life in my youth when I consumed myself with Legos and Hasbro’s Micro Machine toys, having them scattered all throughout my room…and many other rooms in the house, my imagination had no boundaries! I would be influenced by what I watched, what I saw, what I read, and transfer those pieces into these wild, Lego built worlds where anything was possible. This gave me the freedom to create or imagine whatever I wanted without any ideas being too stupid or too far-fetched.
Fast forward many years and as I am faced with deciding how to take that feeling of being creative and make a living out of art, I figured graphic design was the perfect solution. I soon came to realize graphic design gave me the platform to flex my creativity in a way that allowed such a unique opportunity for storytelling. Graphic design is simply visual communication that has the ability to transcend languages, cultures and differences. There’s something so remarkable about how a brand can become instilled into a society, commanding loyalty amongst its consumers and leading to people feeling prideful using these products or services and I wanted to be a part of that!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art – well let’s start with who I am. I am a creative. I work as a graphic designer for a design studio in Downtown Dallas called MonkeyTag (www.monkeytag.com) but my interests go much deeper than identifying myself as a graphic designer. I draw, hand letter, shoot photography, make music and constantly go back and forth (sometimes even combining those outlets) between them.
Like many artists my age, I feel I am still finding my voice, or my style as a creative. To be honest, as long as I have a strong voice, I never want to “find” my style, I always want to keep pursuing something bigger and better than my current state as a creative. Never settle.
Where I am currently though as a creative, my lettering is an expression of more, week to week feelings or inspiration, and my design is a process of expression over an extended period of time that is thoroughly planned, crafted and chiseled down to a final product.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I don’t think the role of the artists has changed, what has changed is the way the artist communicates. We have the ability to now create work and instantly share, possibly capturing audiences from all over the world, thanks to platforms like Instagram, Dribbble and Behance. What hasn’t changed, is the responsive nature we artists have to events that go on around us. We’ve seen that with every new art movement that emerges, artist is responding to the environment around them. From the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, new philosophies of thought influence new styles of art.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
