Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Eklund.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My journey with face and bist painted started about 12 years ago. My friend Cindy needed a face painter because theirs cancelled. Since I occasionally painted murals she thought I could face paint. Wow, was it an experience! An experience that I loved so much that I kept on painting faces and haven’t stopped.
Please tell us about your art.
I mainly paint faces, but I want to get more involved in body painting as well. My inspiration to keep face painting is seeing the smile on the faces of the kids and “kids at heart” after I have transformed them into something new. I want everyone I interact with to walk away happy with their experience and face painting.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
As far as face painters, people don’t want to pay what artists are worth. Also, painting in the heat, this smouldering Texas heat is a huge challenge for Texas face painters. Haha
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work all over, I do a lot of public events. My Instagram and Facebook showcase a lot of my face paintings.
The best way for someone to support face and body painters is to research who you hire. Try to avoid volunteers because most often they use incorrect supplies, causing allergic reactions. Hire off of talent, not off the cheapest rates you can find. (Remember you get what you pay for.) Also, please understand this is our job not a hobby!
