Meet Amelia Goodall of Tersilla & Co in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Goodall.

Amelia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This is the year that I get to say my business is a decade old dream! Currently, I am 23, but this all started when I was 13. I was in Italy with my grandmother who was born and raised in Milan. We were taking a walk after lunch when we happened across a little cart selling flowers on the side of the road in the city center, a scene pretty common in Europe! For some reason, the sight tugged at my heart; I went home saying that I wanted to be a florist and never stopped! I ended up going to Texas A&M to get a degree in horticulture with an emphasis in floral design, however I soon after changed my emphasis to urban horticulture, started my first business at age 20, and taught myself the ins and outs of most everything I know now! Upon graduating and moving back to DFW, I changed my name to Tersilla & Co, to carry on my grandmother, Tersilla’s, legacy of love & adventure as well as to pay tribute to the woman who brought me to the place that started it all!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh my gosh it has been anything but smooth! It looks beautiful on a digital front! An Instagram feed full of beautiful flowers with a couple thousand followers, Taking weddings and photoshoots across the country and even internationally in a few cases… but with every wedding that I flower, there are painful lessons that I learn. I call them growing pains. The biggest struggle, if I can share my whole heart, as the anxiety that was triggered when I started it all! It was excruciating and I couldn’t explain it. I actually had no idea it was even anxiety, I just took it upon myself as a part of who I was. My identity, written into my DNA! It kept me paralyzed in bed some mornings, and crying for no apparent reason others! It was hard to remember to breathe and it seeped into every aspect of my life! It took about a year for me to figure things out and get on medicine, but things were so smooth after that! I knew that if I could grow a business in such a poor state of mental health, I would be able to handle anything! A side note to add, if things are feeling wildly unmanageable, please seek help! This doesn’t have to be your reality anymore, and it certainly isn’t mine!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a florist working exclusively in weddings and events! Tersilla & Co exists to tell visual love stories by embodying European romance & the heart of American adventure! That is who my grandmother, Tersilla, is through and through. When she was just 20 years old, she left all of Italy behind to marry my grandfather and move with him to California. My flowers are in part the elegance of her upbringing and in part her rebellious and adventurous spirit. I am definitely known for the unique way I design, I think because I dove right in at such a young age with so little formal training, no one does it like me! I don’t know how you are “supposed” to do it, I just know what feels right for me! It is something I am most proud of as a business as well. Breaking all the rules and paving my own way!

What were you like growing up?
Oh my gosh, I was the weirdest thing in the world. Wandering off the soccer field to chase butterflies and pick flowers as a young girl, bringing my hamster to school, playing the ukulele… So weird. So unashamedly myself. And I had the best parents ever, they never tried to make me anything other than my goofy redheaded self!

Pricing:

  • Wedding flowers cost a pretty penny, especially in the way I design with the flowers I choose! My weddings start at $4000, but all packages are custom to each specific wedding.
