Meet Angeline Torres of Sunset By Sunrise Photography in East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angeline Torres.

Angeline, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started dreaming of owning a camera when I was in 8th grade. I worked with my mom that summer and got a hold of a point and shoot Canon Powershot! My High School, Skyline, offers photography classes as part of their career development center. I decided to fill out the application but when my mom went to turn it in she decided she had other plans in mind for me so she changed the application to interior design and whelpppp I didn’t get accepted. So I lost my chance to learn about photography through the school. I still kept photography as a hobby and would carry my camera everywhere! My senior year I started working and the first thing I saved up to buy was my first DSLR! Unfortunately after high school I started working a lot, at a point I was working 2 jobs and trying to go to school. Needless to say my camera started collecting dust. I still caught myself staying up at night looking through Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram and just fascinated by portrait, fashion, wedding photography. In 2016 I started following more photographers on Instagram and it inspired me to focus on photography again. I started watching YouTube videos and trying to learn more about my camera and posing and editing. I just started getting out and shooting anytime I could and getting the most practice I could get. Suddenly I started getting messages from people asking how much did I charge and slowly I started making some extra money on the side. Towards the end of 2017 I decided to quit my full time job and focus on myself and this passion I had for photography! This year has been incredible, I have seriously learned so much and I’m determined and ready to keep learning and growing in this industry!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After I quit my full time job, I wasn’t in a good place in my head. I felt like I was doing something wrong. My mind kept thinking “No, you’re supposed to be working a 9-5 job and did you make the right decision?” I was really hard on myself for a while because I was not the kind of person that really made decisions like that, I stuck to what felt “safe” financially. Once I got over that mindset, I felt a lot better. Now I just try to stay motivated and set goals for myself!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sunset By Sunrise Photography specializes in families, couples, children, portraits and events! Honestly, I am just here to capture any and every important moment in a person life. One thing that sets me apart from others is I love just being your friend/ third wheel during sessions and really getting you to feel comfortable in front of the camera! The feeling I get knowing that I get to be the one that gets to capture a memory that will last you a life time just makes me so happy and reminds me why I do what I do!

What were you like growing up?
As a child I was always very loving. My family always remembers me going around the room and hugging everyone. As an adolescent I was very unsure of who I was (then again that’s everybody) which kind of led me to my creative side. I’ve always loved singing and photography. My room was my favorite place, I would record myself singing and dressing up into thrifted clothes and take pictures!
