Meet Tina Torres of Tina Torres Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Torres.

Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My eyes glance at the screen in front of me, then at my subject and back to the screen. My feet, planted in the ground. I pause, compose and then hit the shutter. Moments like this are one of my favorites.

I relocated to Fort Worth, Texas from San Bernardino, California. 95% of my time was spent indoors when I’d initially came to DFW. This was due to my being at school in class (BSN nursing program), working (pediatric nurse) or if I wasn’t doing either. I spent a large amount of my time decompressing at home or spending time with my parents. There was one day I was sitting on my couch and I told myself, what kind of life am I living spending everyday by myself inside this house?!

I decided every chance that I could, I would explore a new area of Dallas or Fort Worth. I shared what I discovered and learned by taking photos with my iPhone and sharing them via Instagram. My sweet and amazing friend and fellow photographer @jomknows (on Instagram), noticed this. He was so nurturing and encouraging. He told me I had a great eye and that photography was something I should consider pursuing and investing in more.

As much as I doubted myself, I took a leap and moved forward with it. This is where the seed of my business was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve always been torn between my love of nursing, where I’m able to care for people. And photography, where I can capture and show the beauty that every subject I have, possesses. There has been times where I’d attempt to pursue photography full time and would jump ship on nursing.

It wasn’t till I did this, that I realized and appreciated how much work behind the scenes happens in having a photography business or any business for that matter. It’s always tough trying a career as an artist. But I’ve been fortunate enough to not have gone through anything life altering or challenging to be where I’m at now.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tina Torres Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Tina Torres Photography, this is the name of my business. I’m better known as @_tinatorres on Instagram, which is where I share more of my work. I specialize in portrait photography. I don’t have a specific niche. I’m able to and have done things ranging from boudoir, fitness, weddings, pets, products, children and lifestyle photography.

You know what, I’m most proud of where I am now. I’m lucky to meet clients who want to work with me based off of recommendations from other people, or stumbling across my work on social media. If you’d asked me a year ago, or two years ago. I would never have imagined that I would have started a business out of what began as a hobby.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Taking photos of people, has really made me realize how much I love capturing people and their personalities and beauty. It’s molded me into a huge advocate of intimate portraits and self/body positivity. The most common thing I hear from those wanting their photos taken is, let me lose weight, let me diet for 2 weeks first or find my abs etc. And hearing things like that just made me realize how society has made us view ourselves. As if we aren’t worthy as we are or we aren’t already amazing. When really and truly, we are.

So over the next 5-10 years. I can imagine myself still staying in this industry and category, doing what I’m already currently doing. Hopefully I will have learned more and will be able to master my craft.
