Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Batista.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
As long as I can remember, my parents have always given me the opportunity to be creative. Whether it was handing me their old polaroid camera, to take a picture, or buying me boxes and boxes of Legos, so that I can build my 3d scenes on the front porch. For one reason or another, however, I could never gain the ability to actually draw. I’ve always had a block when it came to putting pen to paper, even though I was always inspired by artists, painters, graphic artists, etc. It turns out though, that I was amazingly apt at piecing together scenes graphically, if I had the pieces of the scene from someone else’s photographs, or designs – and from that point on (around the age of 15, I began diving into Photoshop, and graphic design. Graphic design led to web design, which led to web development, which led to building a marketing agency with one of my good friends and entrepreneur, Wes Baerga, to realizing that photography, was actually my calling. About 4-5 years ago, I photography became my full-time path, and over the years, I’ve successfully become a professional product, luxury real estate, automotive, portrait, and food photographer.
Please tell us about your art.
I professionally photograph the following genres: food, product, automotive, portrait, and luxury real estate. The passion for photographing has always been because, internally, I’ve always wanted to create – create images, scenes, interesting perspectives, and since I’ve never been able to draw – I’ve found that photography gave me the ability create what I see in my head.
Most of my photography involves off-camera flash, multiple exposures, heavy photoshop manipulation, to piece all images together into one final scene, and allow me to express my inner need to manipulate by introducing my graphic abilities into my work. Over time, I’ve found that being really good at what I do, has attracted amazing clients throughout the world, and in turn has afforded me the ability to do what I love, every single day.
I hope people, see the effort and work that goes into a final image. I regularly provide behind the scenes, live editing broadcasts, to detail what it takes to get my final images, and while I’m always pushing my creative spirit, and making sure that I’m always photographing what I love – what I do, is also a business. I personally manage my own business and my own creative paths, and combine them both to create a daily life, that is fun, creatively inspiring for myself, and produces the funds that allow me to travel the world, afford my lifestyle, and continually add the equipment to my arsenal, that let me continue my passion.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The term artist encompasses so many different genres. When it comes to photography, however, I’m excited to see that so many people can express themselves with the devices we carry every day in our pockets. Smartphones have created a world of content creators, photographers, videographers, etc., and I think that’s so amazing. As a people, we have always documented events and issues in the world, and now more than ever, the world is able to see the plight, the joy, the effects of our actions, and the culture of everyone outside of our immediate view. This in itself is amazing.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My work is regularly displayed and updated through my portfolio on dannybatista.com. I also post unique portraits daily, on my Instagram @dannybatista. I regularly attend the RAW Artists shows around Texas and display both video and large format printed work, for the ticket holders, at those events.
People can support my work, by finding where I fit within their personal photographic needs, and hiring me for projects that allow us to all create some magical photos. I regularly find myself traveling to various countries and states to work with unique individuals and companies, creating images they envisioned.
