Check out Austin Lewis’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Lewis.

Austin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
How my story began in photography was after my baseball injury in school, it was hard for me to regroup from that, matter a fact it was really hard mentally, it was something I was going to take though out my college years but it was stripped away. Thus, speaking on the side, I was a Filmer doing skateboard videos and always wanted to take skate photos so when I moved to Denton, Texas during orientation, my mentor and one of my best friends throughout my whole life came out of nowhere and sat beside me at orientation and offered me his older bridge camera that was a Fuji Film in fall 2016. Soon as I bought it from him I learned certain things on what I should do to take photos because in all honesty it was not easy, I had no style and I did not know anything. Adin was my best friends name that taught me so much about cameras and finally we went to a car meet in Garland, Texas on night and there it began me loving photography.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My world before was shooting everything and from cars to nature to landscape and the list goes on but then portraits began to take over soon as I moved to Denton, Texas for school. As I got into more portraiture work I simply just went out and shot friends over and over but the person that totally caught my eye on doing in more portraiture work was the 2nd model I ever shot named Brooklynne Taylor. After shooting with her on the Denton Square for the first time instantly things changed.

Why? Meeting new people fascinated me because it really showed me everyone is different. As for my message or inspiration, I became heavenly influenced by 2 plus size models named Iskara Lawrence and Stefania Ferrario, both of these women worked on body positivism, this opened my eyes up to a whole new. The more I learned about some photographers on social media that where in the area and or in different state or other parts of the world I did not see to many male photographers geared towards that so I took that role and supported the female body no matter sized, shape, color and so on. I wanted to be as artistic as I could be in shooting regular work or body positivist work.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The creative block, this is the main thing I believe any artist goes through, thinking on what to do next creative, even critiquing your own working thinking it’s not as good enough as someone else’s.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
