Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Jordan.
Jake, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I tell people I’m heading into my 3rd career. I jumped out of college as an entrepreneur and had GREAT success in real estate investment. As the marketing arm of a family business, I learned a ton about relationships and my own skill sets.
After the crash of 2008 the thing that hit me was this – my passion is for solving problems.
So how could I take the marketing experience from real estate and turn that into the next chapter? As a psychology and experience junkie, ad agency seemed like a good fit.
Ad agency was a fantastic experience for me. I had the privilege to lead three different D/FW agencies in growing revenue and winning awards. The variety of brands and relationships is something that could not be a better fit for my busy brain.
So here we are at the third stop of my journey.
After nearly 20 years implementing and being in the weeds I decided that consulting, teaching and training are really what I love. So I’m looking for opportunities to help people and organizations learn and grow.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur by definition is Ups and Downs – no doubt!
One highlight for me was speaking to local organizations. After one talk with a PR group, a lady came up and asked if I had been doing this long. I told her my background was in broadcast journalism, so it wasn’t tough for me to be in front of people.
She said ‘No – how long have you been able to unravel hard concepts for people like that? That was really amazing’ that is so much more important to me than any award or praise 🙂
I’ve also busted out financially a couple times.
Once was the result of poor financial planning and habits along with some risky busy ventures. But another time I had all the right things in place and the idea just didn’t get off the ground.
So it’s become very important to me to be present in each day. Take it one at a time and really enjoy the journey. Accomplishments are awesome, but we spend 95% of the time on the journey!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Real Life Brand story. Tell us more about the business.
We do training, speaking and consulting to teach your team how to use social media and content to connect with potential clients over and over!
How can you expect to stand out in a world full of noise? In a world of shouting and distraction, we build plans to go deep instead of wide.
The reason our approach works is simple.
No matter what happens with technology, platforms, trends or markets one thing remains the same. People are moved by two things – empathy and impact.
The funny things is either one will get you sales.
The great thing is when they are combined then the sky is the limit!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was told when I was 19 years old that there is no such thing as luck. Luck is where preparation meets perspiration.
What I believe that means is this:
If you prepare for something you want – (research, skill building, relationship building, etc.) and you add that to hard work (not endless work hours, just focused hours) then you seem to be luckier than others.
At the end of the day when preparation + perspiration are combined with focus opportunity arises.
