Meet Daisha Lawson of Art by Daisha / Ladies N Art Show

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisha Lawson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Daisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hi, I’m Daisha I’m an artist and creator who loves the idea that as artist we can all succeed and that there is room and space enough for us all to find greatness and happiness. With these feelings and dreams I launched not only my own art brand Art by Daisha but an art union with my partner Annie Tran, Ladies N Art Show, to help myself and others find success and the outlet to create. I began painting around age 16 and it was not until my early 20s that I had the means, time and funds to begin to show my work. It was a really exciting time but I also realized that it is hard and that many times in the art field there is no one to walk you through it. As I continued to find my own way a passion grew within me to want to help others. Now after years of painting and working I am in a great place to be able to continue my art while starting something that can really impact and help other artist.

I was born June 1993 in Dallas, Texas. I am Mexican and African American. I am an avid supporter of the LGBTQ, POC, and women’s community. I attended school at Newman Smith and followed by attending Brookhaven College. I have lived all over Dallas, I am a born and raised Texan. Art is something that I have always had a deep passion for, it takes me to this space of peace and expression. Let it be dance (hooping), abstract art, photography, or creating. I have considered myself a creator nearly a decade. I have been dancing since my teens and recently picked up hooping. Lastly I have been involved in photography near five years mentored by Sam Rith of Rith Images.

Here at Ladies N Art Show, we’re committed to improving the careers of working artist and creators. Launching in 2018, we’ve been a supporter in the arena for small business and creators in the art space. Our Artists Union has played an important role in the production of free, innovative, and supportive space for artist. Our Artists Union knows that strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our founders. We realized that by working together we could overcome challenges much more efficiently and build our community, and that is why we ultimately decided to create Ladies N Art Show.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to get where I’m at now was not easy. I think the biggest hurdle was finding my own confidence in my art and believing that I was good enough that my art was worth it and that others would see the passion I put into what I am doing. I had a lot of great supporter’s friends and family alike that pushed me to keep creating and keep putting myself out there event when I did not think I should.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I currently have two brands Art by Daisha is my personal brand for my own art and Ladies N Art Show is my joint art Union with my partner Annie Tran. For my art I specialize in abstract art and what I would call pop abstract combining abstract backgrounds with content that I find interesting or that is nostalgic for me, everything from goddesses to cartoons. For my art union LNAS we specialize in creating social events, gallery showings and other free opportunities for local artist in Dallas. At this point I am most proud of the fact that I able to give back to see my peers succeed is also my success. Right now what sets myself and my companies apart is that we are truly in it for the love of it, for the dream chasing. Is not just about the money it’s not about popularity it’s about the art and that’s the bottom line.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is the best place to be an artist! We have such a beautiful scene everywhere from Deep Ellum to the Arts District, even just local areas you might live by there is just so much to see and do and so many great opportunities. Dallas has a great network of artist, galleries, schools and so much more.
