Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Jones.
Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating high school truly by the grace of God. I went to college because college was what happens next, with my Father being an attorney and my mother being an accountant, I knew I had to go. However, I still never really understood the value of college during that time. Often times I would fall asleep in class and I didn’t take studying seriously. This helped me find myself in the same math class for the third time.
After some time passed I had to wake up and realize that I would never graduate from Richland College if I never applied myself. Later, I begin to go to the tutoring center and actually study for test which I enjoyed seeing the fruit of my labor.
Fast forwarding after I received my undergrad degree I began to work for a local retail store and I was about two years in with this company. I was burnt out upset and just tired of being there and my manager Marlene approached me. I looked at her she said, “I wanna tell you something,” and I responded, “Okay, what is it?” “Jonathan, your attitude, it sucks,” After hearing those words I was upset and I went home mad and angry to later realize that she was right. From that day when she challenged me to self-reflect and be aware of my words and what I’m saying about people and my situation. This was what propelled me to create something called the No Complain Campaign, challenging others to live an optimistic life focusing on the things they have versus the things that they don’t.
Now, I’ve written an Amazon Bestselling book entitled Process, when I go places and I speak I focus on how can I challenge you to be more intentional to be grateful for all you have.
Has it been a smooth road?
Struggles that I’ve faced are friendships fading out, while there are some people who have stayed committed to me even when I didn’t have any ideal or concept of a business. One struggle was working with my brother Mahiri Takai, he’s the owner of Men’s Fashion Week Dallas. Not that he was the struggle but working as the HR manager in his company this required me to stretch. He knew what he was doing and I had no idea but being behind the scenes and working with him ultimately was a huge launching pad for my business. I learned how to form relationships, marketing and a large piece of branding from Mahiri.
Other struggles that I have faced would be the financial piece of it all, driving uber late nights and early mornings while I am still seeking to do what needs to be done in order to grow my business, I’ll do that. Doing odd jobs at times while I’m in the midst of seeking speaking opportunities, I’ll do that.
Those would be the biggest stretches having to do the things that I necessarily may not want to do so that ultimately I can get to where I want to go. So no it hasn’t been the smoothest road but I believe that bumps (adversity) help build character.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that there are so many pockets to where you can get a different feel in the same city just based on the side of town that you’re on.
The thing I like least about the city are the bikes that you can find anywhere at any given time lol. It’s like playing I-Spy trying to see how many bikes you can find in any area of Dallas lol. Other than that everything else in Dallas is all good from food to friends.
