Meet Trailblazer Sarai Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarai Smith.

Sarai, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Bows by Mommi all began with me and my daughter Brenleigh. I have always been that mom that wanted their little one dressed up with pretty bows and dresses and let’s just say she isn’t that type of girly girl. Very much so a tomboy. Long story short she would always break her hair bows so I bought me a hot glue gun and some ribbon and began looking up YouTube videos! On how to make hair bows! You heard right “YouTube” taught me how to make bows. As time and practice grew on. People started trying to purchase these hair bows. I was shocked. Would someone really want to spend money with me for hair bows!? I prayed about it and went out on faith and decided to make a business out of it. Everything I create is from scratch. Hand sewn and put together. God has placed me in some really prosperous places that has led me to me people who have feed into to grow my business. I have a loving husband who would constantly push me to promote my brand and objects! I realized then about 3 months ago which is a 1yr. That I have had my business that it is actually profitable. I have done small pop up shops at events and even the street corner to get my name out there!! Most importantly through this journey I have realized God has placed a gift in me through my hands. From graduating Cosmetology school to being a hands on preschool teacher currently I have always had a love for creating things in my hands. My future plans for Bows by Mommi is to grow it to be more universal. Showing moms everywhere you don’t have to go spend tons of money on items you can really make yourself! As a mom and wife we have a human nature in us to want to ensure everything looks nice and is put together. I want to encourage Moms more than anything to be more DIY! It’s possible. I’m a full time teacher, a mom of two beautiful kids, and wife. And I run a small successful businesses that involves handcrafted items. Who would have knew!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Avoid being discouraged. Don’t give up. Do not feed into anyone who speaks negativity over your life. Pray about EVERYTHING! And stress about nothing. Most importantly make sure you stay plugged in with God. Never get too busy when you can’t give him time! He allows us to have the ability to be successful. Not the other way around. I have learned that through some of the bumps along the way.

We’d love to hear more about Bows by Mommi.
What sets me apart is all of my work is handmade. I take the time to ensure details are added. I offer custom bows were my customers get to choose everything they want their bow to include. All the way to the color the size whether they want a monogram even the font style. I pride myself on being a people person. Anyone who orders from me will get to speak with me directly not a second hand party or an assistant. And I take pride in my work. My goal is to replicate what my customer envisions.
