Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Jolley.
Mike, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I began working with leather in 2010 following my education in apparel design. Beginning with saddles seemed natural as my childhood memories are full of dusty tack rooms and family horseback trips in the mountains. As time and skills progressed, the focus of my business, JR Brand Leather, has shifted into everyday items IE: Purses, backpacks, wallets and belts. The focus remains the same though: making high quality items that pay homage to my heritage and become a part of a new story.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My work is inspired by both my family and by nature’s simplicity
In a time when we are all running in circles trying to keep up, nature seems still and effortless. Having functional storage and built in organization doesn’t mean you need loads of zippers and flashy hardware. My designs meet the needs of busy lives contained in luxurious leathers and timeless lines. Along the way, many have inspired me to let go of my anxieties and push toward my passions. We are ALL creative in our own right and it’s touch should be used in all aspects of life, from paying bills to playing with our children. There are no accidents where passion and creativity meet.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My advice would be to stay true to your inner voice. Inspiration is as, if not more, important than a skillset and this world needs more authenticity!
