Today we’d like to introduce you to April Rogers.
April, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I never considered myself an artistic person and refer to myself as an accidental face painter. I just tried it one day with a friend, spent countless hours learning the craft, and fell in love with it. I find it therapeutic to use my creativity to bring happiness to others.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I see face painting and glitter body art as a way to stand out in a crowd. I take the time to talk to the children and ask about their favorite colors and things they like to do. I can take that short conversation and do something that is specific to each kid. Each design has a basic foundation, but I can tweak each one to make it special and unique. The best part of what I do is the look and smile on a kid’s face when they see the end result.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Personally, my biggest challenge is getting my name out there. It’s difficult sometimes for the independent painter when large companies and event planning corporations have more advertising dollars. Getting on the coveted first page of a Google search can be a challenge. However, I believe word of mouth and referrals eventually hold more value. I may grow slower, but I will have repeat and dedicated client base.
