Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Lambert and Sarah Lambert.
Katie and Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Sarah and I have been talking about open Lambert Home since 2012! I was about to graduate from Texas Tech with a degree in Restaurant Hotel Management (which I was totally unpassionate about) and Sarah said “Hey…how about instead of managing a Chili’s, you open a store with me?”
Since then, we’ve been working towards the goal! In 2013, Sarah and I both went to a conference in Atlanta where we learned about the issue of modern day slavery, and from that moment, we knew, this would not be any regular retail store. Therefore, we only source products that have been manufactured ethically, with no slave labor or child labor.
We opened October 2015 and it has been so much fun! In 2016, We combined Sarah’s existing design business with the store, and a few months later we started doing home renovations and construction.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
lol No.
We knew in 2012 we wanted to open the store.
Then Sarah got cancer.
Then I got called on missions to Kenya….
Nothing was going right, and everything was kinda terrible…and frustrating. But by January 2014, Sarah was in full remission, I was back from Kenya and we started working on our business plan.
We got denied 3 times for a business loan, and then finally got approved!
Hell, we had to wait 7 months for our freaking custom front doors to come in! haha!
Getting the place open was definitely the hardest part. Since then…everything has actually gone beautifully smooth!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lambert Home – what should we know?
We are one company in 3 parts. 1 part interiors retail store, 1 part interior design firm, and 1 part general contractor. I’m probably most proud of our relationship with each other, our staff, and our clients. From day 1, our purpose has been to bring a genuine transparency to our work. We just want to know and love our clients, and be known and loved by them. I’m really proud of that. Sarah’s also the best designer I’ve ever seen. It’s a gift. 🙂 lol. I can say that cuz I’m her sister! haha!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Credit! God. No doubt. This business and everything beautiful thing that it has brought is all a result of his gracious kindness.
After him, Hard THANKS to Linn Bleggi, who has been our financial mentor.
Then, Dad, Mom, Rachel, Ricky, and Nick. That crew spent days, nights, weekends, hours upon hours rearranging furniture, sweeping the floor, painting walls, hanging Christmas ornaments.
Michelle, who is our first outside designer we’ve hired. She is an excellent team mate!
