Meet Cole Parkey of MVRKK in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Parkey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started getting into music production about 3 years ago. I’ve always had a love for heavy bass music, and through DJ-ing a bit in college and attending countless festivals, I decided to give producing a go. After my wife and I married, I decided to attend ICON’ online program, a California based music production school, while staying in Texas. Their program really helped me take my ideas and actually create the music that I wanted to make. I launched MVRKK (pronounced “maverick”) back in March of 2017 and looking back at my past productions, off they make me cringe, lol. But since the launch of MVRKK I’ve grown as a producer and met tons of amazing people along the way.

Today, I can proudly say, that I’ve released music on Tree House Records, Dead Cell Audio, Dirtysnatcha Promotions, and a few other unreleased tracks that have been picked up by other labels. I’ve also self-released a lot of original work and remixes that have gained me a lot of fans. With all of the music that I’ve put out, I have been asked to perform at One City Music & Arts Festival, September 16th. This will be my debut performance, and I’m extremely excited to be a part of this event.

Has it been a smooth road?
Yes and no. No because there are always days in the studio where nothing seems to come to fruition. Sometimes you’re sitting there and the writer’s block takes over. And for an artist, that can sometimes last a lot longer than you’re wanting it to. Also when I was just starting out, I had no idea how to get my music “out there”. The networking was very difficult at first; but, as time went on, the “networking” turned into meeting new friends. And it has been smooth in a way because each day as an artist, you progress and learn something that you didn’t before. Even those daunting writer’s block days turned into building blocks of the next song.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MVRKK story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is me; MVRKK. I am an electronic music producer and DJ, specializing in Bass Music. I’m known for my Dubstep production and immense energy with my production. I really try to hone the definition of maverick, by always adding an element of individuality to everything that I produce. I’m really most proud of my new music and to look back at when I started and where I am now. It’s always extremely humbling to play that first song, ever produced, and then to play a brand new track that you’ve made and just sit back and say, “WOW!” I feel like my unique arrangement and sound design sets me apart from others. My ability to take a different approach to tracks has really set me apart from other producers in my genre.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years I see my industry growing. I see more and more kids learning to produce music at an earlier age and becoming really good at it. Most of the big producers that we all listen to now, in electronic dance music, were all self-taught. Now you have kids that are 18, 19, and 20, that go straight to a music production program out of high school and start their careers. I think that these programs will start offering instruction to younger kids; almost like how kids do select sports outside of school now. Also, the music that we are all listening to now within my genre of Dubstep, is going to continue to evolve. There will probably be a new “sub-genre” that everyone loves and this cycle will always continue. As long as people keep loving the music, then people will continue to produce it.
