Meet Trailblazer Sherry Vu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Vu.

Sherry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My food and travel lifestyle all started when I was living in Houston, TX. I was born and raised in Arlington, TX, but moved to Houston for college, in 2005. After I received my degree, I made the decision to stay in Houston for work. This was where I met the love of my life, in 2009! After our long days at work, we would always try to venture to new places to eat. This was the beginning of our foodie adventures!

When we started traveling together in 2012, our addiction developed. We would travel to California at least every year, and we would explore other cities or countries we’ve never been to before. I had a remote job at that time, so I was able to bring my work with me on my trips. My schedule was flexible, so I had the opportunity to travel very often. Our itinerary would be FILLED with eateries and attractions. This is when I began to be more active on my Instagram. Eventually, recommendation requests started pouring in. I was constantly being told that I should start a food and travel blog, but I just wasn’t ready at that time.

In 2014, I moved back to Dallas/Fort Worth. I lived in Fort Worth for 3 years before moving to Dallas. It wasn’t until I was living in Dallas that I finally decided to start my blog. I’ve always had a passion for all things food and travel, so I just wanted to share my experiences with everyone. Before going on any trip, I extensively research places to eat and things to do. My friends and followers would frequently message me for travel recommendations, so I thought it would be easier to just create a website, with the places I’ve been. I often rely on Instagram when looking for new food trends and places to try, so that explains why I’m constantly posting so much food! I’m always encouraging others to travel while they can, and I hope my blog helps others decide on where to go next!

It wasn’t until this year that I started receiving invitations to media events. I’m normally a very shy person and sometimes have a difficult time starting conversations when I first meet people. But I’m so happy, I managed to push myself out of my comfort zone because I’ve met so many great and positive people through these experiences!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not exactly. I’m not a full-time blogger, so my content isn’t as consistent as I’d like it to be. I decided to give up my remote job in Houston, to come home and help with the family business. Now that I’m home, my schedule isn’t as flexible as it was before. My traveling has become less frequent and now that I have a wedding coming up next year, we have to save! My travel withdrawals have definitely been hitting me hard this year, but I hope that we’ll be able to travel again after the wedding. With that being said, I haven’t had much content to use for my travel blog! I’m constantly looking for new opportunities and am hoping to one day become a full-time travel blogger, or just get paid to travel (a girl can dream!).

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My Instagram and travel blog highlights my love for food and travel. I’m constantly looking for new places to go and new eateries to try. I enjoy exploring the new food trends and discovering flavors I’ve never experienced before. My Instagram showcases the places I go to or the food I try, but my website will go into deeper detail about my experiences. It’s my way of giving back to the community and helping others find new places to explore!
