Meet John Larson of American Real Estate Investments

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Larson.

John, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in real estate as a retail real estate agent in Birmingham, MI. After a few years of working with buyers and sellers, I found that working with investors was the better route. Investors buy off numbers and not off of emotion, so it resulted in more deals for me. More deals meant more money.

I quickly worked my way through the real estate investment industry until I was offered the Sales Director position at American Real Estate Investments. Six months into my role with AREI, I was promoted to partner. Since then I have helped build AREI into one of the largest single family rental turnkey providers in the U.S.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. The learning curve involved with real estate investing is never ending. Every day is a new challenge. Just when I think I know it all a new obstacle pops up. I enjoy the challenge though and that’s what keeps me on my toes. This job never gets boring, that’s for sure!

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the American Real Estate Investments story. Tell us more about the business.
We help people build rental portfolios as a source of passive income. It is basically an alternative to the stock market and other traditional investments out there.

I truly believe that rental properties are recession proof. Unlike all the other investment options out there. Think about it, someone will already be willing to rent your property, no matter how bad the economy gets. People will always need a roof over their head.

All investments are cyclical but even in down times rental properties remain a hot commodity. Sure, the value of your property may decrease for a period of time but historically, when the market is good, property values rise year to year. Not only can you earn monthly cash flow from my investments but you can also earn equity growth from year to year if you purchase in the right markets.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I only believe in hard work and ethics. If you work hard and run an ethical business you will be successful. If you don’t, well…you won’t.
