Meet Alison Morris of AliMo Designs in Flowermound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Morris.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Alison Morris. I am the wife of a retired Air Force Sergeant and we have two sons. I grew up and met my husband in San Antonio, Texas. The name aliMo came from our memory of the time we spent in the Alamo City. Being in a house full of boys and boy things, this creative outlet has been a beautiful experience to regain to my love of unique fashion. I have been on a quest for beautiful lightweight jewelry anyone can enjoy. It has been such a wonderful journey finding fun designs and fabrics that can brighten up someone’s life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has definitely not been a smooth one, but every bump has led to wonderful learning experiences. At the beginning, I didn’t really know where to start until I just started wearing some of my favorite pieces of jewelry. When people would say something, my joy and love began to show through each piece and people wanted to wear these pieces too. I have always been painfully shy, so to me, this is an amazing icebreaker for me. I feel that Jewelry is very personal and when people tell me “I don’t like large jewelry” or “it looks so heavy”, I try to let them hold it or put the earrings on. The first thing out of everyone’s mouth is that of shock. “I don’t even feel them”, “they are so light”. The struggle is to get a person to try them before the make a decision.

AliMo Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I design lightweight leather jewelry, mostly earrings. I am expanding into necklaces and cuffs. My biggest sellers are my layered feathers and petals. They are so much fun and lightweight so they won’t pull on your ears. I love that I can customize the earrings to fit the customer. Some of my customers like very small pieces and some like large pieces. Some like texture and other don’t care for it. No matter what the customer wants, I can make the same piece of jewelry with compromising the style by changing the size or fabric.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Actually this proud moment happens over and over, which is amazing! When I am out around town and someone stops me and says they love wearing my earrings and they always get compliments every time they wear them. It makes me feel so good that my work has brought so many people so much joy. It’s such a great feeling when you have worked so hard on something you love and other people validate your work too. It always such a blessing when people want more.
