Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Barnes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Plumbing for a local hospital in Abilene Texas in 2001, in the early summer of 2002. I moved to Arlington to work for a local plumbing company as a drain service technician. I later went to work for a construction plumbing company that did plumbing for new home construction, then went back to service plumbing for a local Arlington plumbing company for a little while. I then was hired on by a large plumbing construction company where I stayed 5 years obtaining my journeyman license and then my masters license. After leaving there, I started a commercial plumbing company from 2009-2012. I was approached to run a company for a man out of state doing home warranty work. I closed the commercial company to operate his business. Unfortunately, that man didn’t stay in business long so I then worked for another local plumbing company as the manager for a year. Then decided that I wanted my own service company. So I left and created All Masters Plumbing, using my experience I created a company based on the values and quality of what I wanted a company to be. Keeping our cost affordable and service high, I wanted to give customers an option away from the big name companies and franchises that consistently over charge for work and have given plumbers a bad name as crooks and cheats. It’s important that homeowners not be lured by fancy commercials and flashy trucks and keep in mind that they afford to do that by charge large costs. I started out working by myself to now employing 6 people and hopefully continuing to grow based on the principle of fair pricing and quality work. Plumbing is not an exact science and at times is very tricky and not every customer is a happy customer but we strive to do our best.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Biggest obstacle has been to hire plumbers. There is a great shortage of plumbers in Texas and it’s only getting worse. No one looks at plumbing as a career or as an opportunity to make a good living. Yes, plumbing is dirty and difficult and back breaking, but good plumbers make a good living. Another is the struggles of taxes and high insurance requirements to operate a business. Our government has definitely made it a struggle for small businesses. It’s always been a struggle to find a balance of keeping customers happy and employees happy while trying to make time for kids and family. My phone never stops ringing, I’m always available to my people and customers when they need me.
Please tell us about All Masters Plumbing.
I think what separates us is our customers. We have happy loyal customers who appreciate what we do. Secondly, I feel that with my years in all aspects of plumbing gives us the ability to take care of any plumbing need. I also focus on our prices to make it fair and affordable we also do what we can to help customers, plumbing can be expensive and not everyone has the funds so on many occasions I will allow a customer to make payments without any extra charges or financing. We definitely care about the health and quality of life for our customers. People could live without electricity and heating and cooling but clean fresh water and the ability to safely dispose of waste is a necessity not for convenience but for the health of the people.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My fondest memories are spending time with my Dad and Granddad hunting together. I also would say spending time with my grandfather was very important to me. He was a pediatrician and had his own practice and his drive and care for his patients, I know has had a lasting impact on me and is part of what I do now for my customers.
