Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Tunwar.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ariel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up as a young teen I wasn’t sure of who I wanted to be. I suffered from depression and low self-esteem; due to my low vision steaming from Nystagmus a rapid involuntary movement of the eyes. As a matter of fact, I wasn’t even into fashion my older sister was and I wanted desperately to be more like her. So if she sketched clothes in her notebook so did I. At one point she even auditioned to model and was accepted but due to school and money issues, she passed on the offer. When she decided to attend El Centro College for Fashion Marketing after high school. Four years later I also attend that same school and that’s where my true love for fashion began. I started styling a lot of local photo shoots around town. When I wasn’t in school studying I worked in different fashion shows within the DFW area assisting backstage. I loved styling so much it became second nature. Although after two years of working in the fashion industry I became a Visual Merchandiser for H&M and just recently in February of this year started my blog Fashaholik. It’s fashion-based with a little bit of travel mixed into it. My mission is to inspire young women like myself to be confident, bold, and stylish despite their disabilities. So all of this year I’ve been styling a few new clients getting my feet wet with blogging and now working for SMGlobal Catwalk as their backstage Co-coordinator for our Dallas division.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road my vision is 20/200. I have always had to work harder than others just to keep up. Even in my nine to five as a visual merchandiser. I didn’t apply for that position I started with the company as a sales advisor part-time. I worked my way up to a visual and believe me it wasn’t easy but with hard work, I accomplished my goals. My journey as a stylist also hasn’t been too easy. I’ve experienced what I feel a lot of people experience which is lack of motivation and the inability to just take a leap of faith. This year my faith has been guided mostly by determination and my support team. I strongly believe that if I didn’t have those things I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fashaholik – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Working as a freelance stylist, influencer, and coordinator it does get a little hectic. My main focus right now is Fashaholik the content that I display on my blog is targeted towards young woman ages 14 to 30 looking to discover their own identity threw fashion. So every month I showcase my own personal style which is both classic and fun. I am mostly known for getting my clothes for pennies on the dime. I can style a complete outfit for twenty dollars or less. If I had to think of one thing that sets me apart from other influencers; I would say that you never really know what you’re going to see on my page concerning my fashion. Love it all so I wear what makes me feel happy. My biggest accomplishment is being given the opportunity with Smglobal Catwalk to work during New York Fashion Week this year. The opportunity was presented to me randomly threw a friend and it has become the highlight of my year our featured designer will be Samina Mughal we have our New York show on September 8th and our Dallas show will be held on October 5th.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love best about Dallas is the hidden potential that a lot of our artist possess and the ability to meet and create with like-minded individuals. What I like least about my city is that I don’t see too many artists trying new things; we are more into the luxury part of fashion. I would love to see more of the avant-garde portion.
