Meet Coryanne Ettiene of Ettiene Market in Downtown McKinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coryanne Ettiene.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Coryanne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was raised in southern Arizona on a diet of rolled tacos and peanut butter sandwiches, and spent my 20’s backpacking across the globe, eating my way through Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and South America. It wasn’t until my 30’s after a decade of climbing the corporate ladder and earning a Master of Philosophy from Kings College London, that I reluctantly entered domesticity with a growing family to feed. I cut my teeth one cooking disaster at a time, until a tiny trickle of kitchen victories grew into a culinary passion that found me writing for national magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Traditional Home, and More and appearing in TV networks across the US sharing my favorite food and lifestyle trends. 2 years ago, I started dreaming about a slower life that was focused around family meals and good friends, and from that sprung the idea for a curated kitchen store.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m a fan of the bumpy road, that means you are following your heart and not your head; it also means the journey you’re on is evolving with your new skills. As a new shopkeeper, my biggest struggle has been learning on the job — when to order, how much to order, how to source a product, should we close on Mondays, when to hire staff, what a 941 is, and most importantly, getting to know those in my new tribe of shopkeepers. After 16 months of being open, I’m still learning, I’m always growing my network of shopkeeper friends and I continue to enjoy those smooth moments and embrace learning from those that aren’t.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ettiene Market – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Ettiene Market is a curated kitchen and pantry store located in historic Downtown McKinney. We sell stories that look like ingredients and kitchen goods favored by Coryanne Ettiene. But really…. When you bring them home, they turn into memories that make your life more fabulous, like small batch ingredients made by real people who are living their dream, and artisan kitchen hand tools that will become family heirlooms. And we stock specialty spices so amazing, you’ll want to build a new spice rack, and intoxicating bar tools that quench every thirst (building a spice rack is thirsty work). We have fabulous bakeware for people who like to bake, or at least look like they do, and white dishes because everyone should own a set of everyday white dishes. We also have irresistible We offer a wedding and gift registry service for everyone, including those who burn toast.

#SpinnytheShopDog sits at the heart of everything we do.

In addition to being a market, we strive to be a community builder and are slowing building a community of local foodies through our #EttieneMarketEvents. Workshops and supper clubs give life to our custom farm table from Tumbleweeds Architecture, our annual Kitchen Pop Up Shop is stocked by donations and allows those in need to shop for free for a variety of kitchen essentials, and our Shopping Safari brings shopkeepers from across Downtown McKinney together to breathe a little nighttime shopping fun into our historic square.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our next big adventure is launching EttieneMarket.com as an online shopping destination. We’ve been talking about it since we opened and now is the perfect time to sit down and really put something together we love.
