Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many bumps in the road. From February to June, we are extremely busy with the End of Year awards that every sport and academic entity does in numerous school districts. Sometimes what they want and what they can afford are not the same so we have to do some research to find quality products at an affordable price. We have learned the hard way what questions to ask and who we can trust when ordering these items. We have several “Oops” orders in our attic. Sometimes with the language barriers our ideas do not translate correctly. With the creation of the internet and the ability to order samples and email, we have been able to improve our products. Our trophies and plaques are still handmade right here in our shop. That sometimes makes for all-nighters, but we do what we have to keep our clients happy.
We have learned that if a price on a product is too good to be true on the internet, it is probably something to stay away from.
With the constant changing of technology, we have also learned to take the wait and see approach on the latest and greatest. Sometimes it is best to not be the first in the area to offer something and let the bugs work out.
We have also learned to say no, that is very hard in our business. But since we still do things by hand and touch every product that comes out of our shop, there are times when it just cannot be done. We hate those times because we hate saying no. We only say no when we absolutely have to.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We feel that our personal touch in both service and products is the key to obtaining our clients as well as keeping them. Our honesty, prices and family-feel service is our badge of honor.
