Today we’d like to introduce you to Macey Ward.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I discovered a love of floral design in college, at Texas A&M, where I studied horticulture. I took a few design classes there and soon after started working part-time for a retail florist where I learned even more. The summer before my senior year, I decided to intern with a wedding florist and knew that I had found what I loved most – working with brides and working on a new event each week! That summer, I started Flourish Floral Design and started booking weddings during my senior year. After graduation, I dove into the wedding world head first and haven’t looked back since!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There has been a lot of learning along the way. There was (and still is) so much about the business side of things that I struggle to do well with. But on the flip side of that, I never thought the business would take off so quickly. So, there has been a lot of good along with the bad. My advise to young women thinking about starting a business or who are just starting out would be to make friends in the industry you are in, whether local or far away. I have found that women in creative industries are incredibly helpful and encouraging to newcomers. I had so many people help me along the way (and still do!), so I am always so happy to help new business owners however I can!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Flourish Floral Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Flourish Floral Design specializes in floral for weddings and events. We bring a young and fresh vibe to floral and love working with organic, garden-style florals. I love developing a relationship with brides and making the process easy and fun for them! And I love to make them feel loved and celebrated on their wedding day! We are a small company and strive to be very personal with our clients.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Yes! I think there is so much opportunity for women right now – especially in the creative realm. With sites like Etsy and Pinterest, podcasts and blogs, there are so many ways for women to do what they are passionate about. I truly feel like the options for women are limitless and am proud to be a women entrepreneur.
